  • Why can't people proofread their questions?

On this exchange? Really, a few typos are expected, but it seems over 60% of these questions are illegible and if taken literally make ZERO sense. Am I right?

  • Which is better for video conferencing ... DHCP or static IP?

I must help link three sites so video calls can be initated by anyone in the company, not just the "tech savvy." If using DHCP will a call be more difficult to set up? Or will the Polycom device's MAC address provide enough information to rout the call?

Would static IP be simpler? What about cost of static vs. DHCP?

Thanks in advance for you answers!

  • What's up with the Left hand?

In those countries where they use the left hand for... um .. personal hygeine, it is forbidden to offer the left hand in a handshake, also to transfer money with it, and many more taboo's ... because that hand is considered "unclean." (even though it may have been washed and/or more sanitary than the right).

My question is: What CAN you do with the left that doesn't cross-contaminate the right? The steering wheel of a car undoubtedly touches both hands, same for a computer keyboard. Aren't both hands now the same amount of "unclean?" When one prepares food in these countries can he/she use the left hand? What about building things using the left hand?

  • Online Trading - Tax Question?

I'm new to online stock trading. Last year I bought and sold securities. 2 sold for profit. 1 sold for loss. Bought more shares of another security which has not been sold. How in the world am I supposed to pay taxes? I've posted this question before but was unclear. The people who answered my incomplete question said something about Schedule D. Is this form enough to cover my situation?

    Thanks in advance

  • Stocks and Taxes; Pay taxes if stocks sold for loss?

I'm new to online stock trading. I'll make it simple. Last year I bought $400 worth of stocks. I sold $350 worth. Do I have to pay taxes on the ones I sold even though overall I lost money?

  • Why is the name of Norfolk, VA pronounced so differently than it's written?

My wife used to live there. She pronounces it "NAW-fick" as do most residents. (actually the "fick" part should have a "u" instead of an "i" but we can't write that word here.)

    Why??

  • Why are "housing starts" such a key economic indicator?

If we keep building new homes, but there's not a constant influx of people to occupy those homes, won't people move from existing homes, rendering them vacant, and depressing the value of the other houses in the same neighborhood? I know people get older and move to assisted living and then someday pass away, but still it seems like economists go batty when new houses are being built. If people move in to fill them, that's fine, but this just seems like another bubble. What's your take?
