  • Can another country make you sing their national anthem if you are working there?

A friend of mine commented that while working at the UAE in an international school, she was told that all teachers HAD to be singing the national anthem (which if you don't know how it translates, it celebrates Allah, sacrifice, etc). As the teacher, she shows respect by standing up in class, facing the flag and being respectful while the anthem is being sung, but now they are requiring all teacher (especially those coming from other countries) to participate in the singing. What are your thoughts on that? I would have a hard time if someone is making me do this kind of thing even if I am working in their country. The contract said nothing about having to actively participate in these kinds of rituals. Where do we draw the line?

  • Do you tip at restaurants when you're just picking up food?

This is just a poll of sorts to see what's the opinion out there on tiping in these situations. I picked up food from a wings place tonight and didn't leave a tip. I actually waited about 10 mins by the front counter since they weren't ready. I didn't tip not because of the wait, but because I was just delivered my food in a bag and nothing more.

What do you do in these cases? Do you actually leave a tip for carry out stuff? Like Chinese places?

  • How do you incorporate innovative ingredients into cupcakes?

I would like to do innovative sweet cupcakes (like the ones from cupcake wars) but don't know how to incorporate them into the batter. What batter do you start with? A basic cake batter? how much of the ingredients do you use? For example, a lady did a pink champagne cupcake, how much do you include and where (batter or frosting?). For strawberries, do you mash the strawberries? do you mix them with sugar or water to make them liquidy and then incorporate them into the batter or frosting?

Lastly, is there a website I could do research on creative baking? I am a recipe follower so this task is a bit taunting but with some free time this summer in my hands, I would like to explore in the kitchen. Thanks!

  • What can I use to alleviate redness/itchiness where underwear hits?

For the past few weeks the skin on the right side of my panty line in between my legs is really red, raw and itchy. The skin is peeling a bit and that part is whitish, but the part that really itches is very red and raw. I noticed if I use powder after a shower, it makes it worse. I've even resorted to sleep without underwear and that seems to help somewhat.

I haven't changed laundry detergents, and my underwear is not brand new or of different fabric. These are 100% cotton.

What could it be? fungal infection? What can I use? hydrocortisone cream? baby butt cream? antifungal stuff? Or will I need to see the doctor for this embarrasing skin issue?

    Thank you!

  • looking for an old children's book probably from the 70's?

I'm trying to remember the name of a book, published probably in late '60's or very early '70's. It's a kids picture book, rough size 8.5x11. I can see the cover picture in my mind but title is blurry...a boy running down a hill, yelling and screaming waving his arms. The book is about a boy who is always...yelling/screaming before he finally learns his lesson and talks in a "normal voice." Any suggestions?

  • What should I do with my new desktop?

Got a new desktop and I need to transfer all my files from the old to the new. I also use DSL and have a router for WiFi for the house. What should I do now? Can I save all my files in USB drives? CD-Rs? And once I hook up the new computer, how do I go about installing the DSL and wireless router? Is it plug and play?

  • difficulty reading emails sent from gmail?

A friend of mine is using gmail and attaching documents using google doc to my hotmail account but her messages cannot be seen completely. It looks like one long sentence, even after I click on read full message. There's no scroll bar either at the bottom of the message or page. Are my hotmail settings wacko? Or is there an issue with her gmail/google docs messaging? How can I fix it?

  • what can I give my child for a runny nose?

She went to the neighbor's pool yesterday all afternoon and last night she started with a very stuffy but runny nose (clear). I gave her come claritin this morning but that didn't help much throughout the day. Just gave her Benadryl tonight to see. She also has a vaporizer running next to her bed to help her breathe tonight. I don't think the neighbor uses chlorine, rather salt for his pool, so maybe it's not allergies. She feels miserable, and mommy is feeling miserable too. What can I give her?

  • why am I getting all these political campaign calls on my cell?

I don't have a house line anymore for several reasons, and one of them was the telemarketing/campaign calls I used to get. Now that the primaries are coming next week, and local elections in Nov, I am being flooded by these on my cell. I get about 2 a day including Sundays and after 8pm! How did this happen? And how can I make this stop? I have ATT by the way.

    Thanks

  • Green Dot Walmart Scam?

I received a letter from Green Dot titled "unclaimed property due diligence Notification". The letter says that I have a Walmart gift card or money card with a balance of $85 that has been inactive and they want to send me a check for that amount. They need a copy of documents to "proof" who I am for the check such as driver's license, passport, military id, etc. Then sign below and a check will be mailed for the amount.

This sounds fishy. I can't remember having a card for that amount. What throws me off though is them asking for a copy of a valid, non expired official ID. Hum...I searched online and Green Dot seems to be a troublemaker, but didn't find information about this particular case. Any help?

  • Water heater problems?

I have noticed that the water is not as hot as usual when I take showers and gets cold before I am done. This was never the case until this past week. Is there something in the water heater I should be checking? replacing?

  • Why do I have these tiny little flies in my house?

I usually don't have insects inside the home. But for the past couple of weeks, I have noticed these tiny flies. They fly fast! I have seen one around the computer room, maybe one or two in the bathroom by the sink but not usually in the kitchen! It's been raining more often now here in FL so I don't know if this has something to do with it. But how are they entering the house? Are they reproducing somewhere? Should I be spraying? I usually never spray for things besides mosquitoes in the porch and maybe a wasp here and there. I do maintain a clean house so lack of cleanliness and rotten food is NOT the issue.

  • Ideas for hands on activities for math camp?

I will start a math club next week for about an hour each morning. I will focus on fractions, measurement, geometry and number sense/algebra. This is for upper elementary kids. I have already gathered some activities, but would like to get a few more just in case I need to double up. Do you have any that target any of these areas? Do you know of particular sites where I can get more?

  • What can I do to get that smell off the clothes?

My husband sweats a lot at work, sometimes brings the clothes drenched. I wash his work clothes alone in the washer with Tide and do a double rinse, but this acid smells clings on, even after using softener or the dryer sheets. I have tried using Borax as well in the wash, but nothing. It's a peculiar acidic smell. What else could I do?

  • why would the bank call me when the payment is not even late?

My mortgage payment is due on the 1st of the month with a grace period until the 15th. I have made late payments in the past so I know they automatically start calling you on a daily basis after the 15th. Why would the bank call me today, on a Sunday, the 6th of the month??? She told me that it was an automatic system, and I told her that's not true when this same bank has never EVER called before the 16th. I told her I didn't want any more calls, she said she didn't guarantee anything since it's automated. Then I told her that computers are commanded by HUMANS therefore if she wanted it, she could make sure they didn't call me when I wasn't even late for the payment. What can I do? Ahh..and when I called again today to complain to another dept, their customer service dpt is not even open on Sundays! But the collections is????

  • Why are my ixoras not growing?

I planted them 2 years ago around the queen palm in the front of my house. The corner where they are faces southwest. They don't seem to take off. They look very skinny and although they are now flowering this month, they don't seem to get bushy and grow. I have fed them ixora/palm food 2-3 times a year since I have planted them. The palm is thriving nicely, but not the ixoras. What else could I plant around the palm instead?

  • Which perennials would be good for this location?

I live in Central FL where the winters could reach 40s only at night for a few days. I have an area in the front that I need to redo. It's between the garage wall and the front entrance. It faces south and receives direct sun in the front but not in the back. I have a double roebellini in there which I love. What perennials would be great for that area. Anything with color would be nice. Also, what would be a good hedge for the back between the roebellini and the window?

  • why would Lowe's not mix Signature paints in the regular Valspar cans anymore?

I used to buy paint at Lowes using their regular American Tradition paint but using the colors from L. Ashley, Eddie Bauer, etc. This weekend I went to get more paint (actually a color I already own and needed to retouch) and they wouldn't do it for me. The excuse was the computers have been reconfigured not to accept that. Hum...how does the computer know which can you are placing under? does it have eyes??? hehehe. Honestly, what's the big deal? It's still Valspar paint, only more expensive!
