  • How do I deal with my disrespectful sibling?

Even though I am five years older than him (21 & 16) he constantly swears and directs his ire at me. I work a full-time job and stay out of his way but he shows me no respect. He is unfamiliar with discipline so whenever I tell him to watch his mouth he complains to my mum. Our dad was never around when we were growing up and my mum is a bit of a soft touch. My mum has never been able to hold down a job for more than a few months. She is an unlikable person and only cares about herself. If I were to miss a rent payment she would have me on the streets. I want to move out but my job doesn't pay well. I avoid interacting with my brother because he is a troublemaker. I have tried teaching him what it is to be a good person and how to survive in the real world, but I fear that he is beyond saving.

  • My mum is planning to move house without me - what should I do?

My mum and I never get along and never will. My younger brother told me that she cannot bear living with me. I turned 21 last week. I pay rent and act like a responsible adult. I would move out if I were earning more money. I don't raise my voice, swear, or quarrel in her presence. She refuses to accept that, unlike my older brother, I have a backbone. She calls me 'cold' because I rarely share my thoughts with her and the rest of her family. I do it out of respect: when I have nothing nice to say, I don't say anything at all. I work hard and, at times, do more than I should for her.

  • What are some nice things to say to a girl in Polish?

Though we are only friends she flirts with me occasionally. I know a few basic Polish phrases (I learned them for her) but would like to pay her a compliment in her native language.

  • Am I right to distance myself from this 'friend'?

This guy and I attended secondary school together and have been friends for almost three years. Despite knowing about my mental health problems, he makes too many jokes at my expense. Now, if it weren't for the fact that I think there is some goodness in the guy, I would dissociate myself from him immediately.

Please don't say something like 'he is just a typical guy screwing around.' He thinks I am an idiot because I missed a lot of classes at secondary school. He knows how I feel. I have asked him on more than one occasion to be considerate - yet, much to my disappointment, he continues to mock me.

I don't need this person in my life when he's adding to my stress, right?

  • Can long distance relationships work?

There is a girl I like, and I think she likes me, but neither of us is eager to admit it because of long distance. We are both adults with financial issues so meeting in person is just not possible right now. I have known her for more than a year and she already knows so much about me. I speak with her almost every day, even though I work and she goes to college.
