  • Which office appropriate shoe is best for my feet?

The office I work in does not permit open toed flats, i.e. sandals and flip flops. I have flat feet and a mild bunion on my left foot. Which one is healthier for my feet - open-toed wedges/heels or closed flat shoes?

Open-toed wedges/heels: I'm already fairly tall, so wearing these often mean that I'm among the tallest at work, which can get a bit awkward. However I like being able to air my feet. The height probably isn't too great for my feet though.

Covered flats: Understand that they aren't too good for bunions. Also most flats make my feet rather sweaty. I can "air" my feet under the desk though.

  • Is this dress worth 33 USD?

The dress in question is this: http://www.flaunt.cc/flaunt-pretty-in-tweed-dress-...

It will cost about US$33 including shipping. I've had my eye on it for a while now but the price is putting me off as I need money for my studies. Also, as I need work clothes for my temp job, the more logical choice would be to spend the money on cheaper clothes.

But the dress is so lovely! Help!

  • Charm bracelet becoming looser?

I've had a silver charm bracelet since 2011 when I was 16. Back then, it had 2 charms and I would fasten it with 3 or 4 loops hanging at the "tail". Now it's 2014 and there's 4 charms on it, but I can easily fasten it with 5 loops hanging without it feeling tight. I remember the saleslady telling me that it was okay if the bracelet was loose at first since adding more charms would make it tighter. The opposite seems to be happening!

Did anyone else with silver charm bracelets experience this too? Or could it be that I lost weight at my wrist?? (highly unlikely since I wasn't very heavy in the first place and haven't noticed significant weight loss anywhere else!)

  • How real is "chub rub"?

A few years ago during PE, my pleasantly plump friend told me she hated jogging because of the friction between her thighs. I thought she was just exaggerating, but I've just come across an online article in The Guardian about this "chub rub" that actually surprised me, because I never knew it was such a big deal. How bad is it for those who suffer from it? Do men get it? Do let me know about your experiences with chub rub, it's all very new to me....

    The article in question:

  • What do Singaporeans look like?

I am Singaporean Chinese and have had many Singaporeans of all races, especially Chinese, asking me if I am Singaporean or local. Generally those aged below 40 think I am at least half Caucasian and those above 40 think I am mainland Chinese/ Taiwanese/ Japanese.

I have dark brown hair, fair skin, black eyes and pretty much the same features as most other Singapore Chinese girls my age. Someone please explain if there is a more specific "Singaporean" look?

  • Inability to open bottle caps?

I am a reasonably healthy 18 year old female but I always have a great deal of trouble opening the bottle caps of plastic bottles. Every time I try to open a bottle it feels like I am exerting a great deal of energy and my hands become red and sore, so much so that I worry that it will make my skin rougher. Sometimes I succeed in opening a bottle after using my shirt or a washcloth for added friction, but most of the time I have to resort to asking someone else.

I jog regularly and have a slim build. Why is it that I can't open these bottles while practically all of my friends my age and even young children are able to do so? Is it possible that this is related to my inability to do inclined pull-ups?

  • Rejecting entry-level job after accepting?

I accepted a job offer today and even agreed to start orientation and work next week. However, I have already arranged job interviews for better-paying jobs. I'm really tempted to reject the first job offer if a better job comes along later this week. Is this commonplace, pure douchebaggery, or both? Should I do it?

Do I contact the person who hired me or just not turn up?

Please note that these are low-end minimum wage jobs like retail, receptionist etc and I only have about 6 months free to work, so accepting the job and quitting after a few months isn't really an option.

  • 12% body fat but no exercise, no diet?!?

I'm an 18 year old girl, height 173cm (5'8) and weight about 50-52kilos (110-115lbs). The weighing machine I use measures body fat percentage (albeit inaccurately) and it has always given me a reading of about 12%. I thought this was pretty normal but today I googled more and it seems that women with 12% body fat are either really ripped or emaciated. While I do have a relatively healthy diet of mostly home-cooked meals, I also pig out on chocolates, ice-cream, and other traditionally unhealthy food nearly everyday. I jog once a week and besides walking that is my only exercise. I am far from ripped and my arms are particularly weak. I have enough fat on my butt and thighs to gross the average person out. So why is it that my body fat percentage is 12%?

The method my weighing machine uses, bioelectrical impedance analysis, is not very accurate but apparently they tend to give higher estimates... Which means that my body fat is below 12%?!?!

  • Help with hat knitting pattern?

I want to make the hat from the site below because it doesn't require circular needles or working in the round, which I have absolutely no idea how to do.

    http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/pattern.php?id=5...

However, I'm having trouble understanding what is meant by 'Loosely cast on 48-50 sts on needle size 8 mm with 1 thread in each colour Symphony.' Do I cast on 48-50 stitches in each colour so that I have a grand total of 146-150 stitches? I hope someone wise in the ways of knitting can explain.

Also, this pattern requires me to switch needle size halfway through. What effect does this have on the work and why is it necessary?

    Thank you!

  • Good SAT score but horrid school results - how?

I'm an international student interested in studying in the US. Thus, I took my SAT reasoning test in 2011 and got a score of 2200, which according to many sites is more than what is accepted at every uni in the US. However, here's the big problem - my school results are crap. I've failed many subjects and am constantly listed as being among the bottom 10% of my cohort in school, and almost had to repeat one year. However, I understand that the "high school" in my country is college level in the US, and what Americans learn in high school I have covered in secondary school 3 years ago. (I did reasonably well in secondary school, mostly As and Bs)

Should I still bother applying to good colleges such as Brown, NYU and UC Berkeley? Will they ignore my school results and instead focus on SAT score and personal essay? Please give advice!

  • UK vs US university education for foreign student - which is cheaper?

In terms of university fees, would it be cheaper for a foreigner to study in the UK or the US? Also, how do other costs such as student accomodation, textbooks etc compare?

  • Which language should I read the book Battle Royale in?

I've decided to read the novel Battle Royale by Tamaki Koushun, but cannot decide which language I should read it in. I am most proficient and comfortable in English, fairly proficient in Chinese and learning Japanese now. Should I just read it in English or would the Chinese version be better? Is the book simple enough for me to understand it in Chinese or Japanese? Thanks!

  • SAT score of 2200 from Singapore?

I took my SATs earlier in December as a private candidate and just received my scores:

    Critical Reading: 750

    Maths: 790

    Writing: 660

What can I do with this SAT score? Do I have a good chance of getting a place in a decent, reputable university in the USA and what can I do to improve my chances?

Should I take this SAT reasoning test again or should I take the subject tests (i.e. Literature, Chinese, Chemistry...)?

    THANK YOU.

  • Good Japanese entertainment gossip blog?

Does anyone here know a good Japanese entertainment gossip blog that is in English? I'm looking for one that includes Johnny's Entertainment and comes with lots of pictures. I used to read myfirstgossipblog.blogspot.com, but it's less updated nowadays~

Also, I'm not looking for any of those big sites like www,tokyograph.com or www.tokyohive.com, since I already know them. Just tell me any gossip blogs that you happen to read/know about.

Thanks for the help! I know this shouldn't be placed under Travel>Asia Pacific>Japan, but it's much easier to get good answers this way.
