  • This bread recipe has me to the point where I have a ball of dough ...?

This bread recipe has me to the point where I have a ball of dough and it says "Let stand in a warm place until double in size". Do they mean double in volume or double in radius. Size makes me think radius, but volume of a sphere increases as the cube of the radius. Double radius would mean volume increases by x8.

    So, which do they mean?

  • I have a recipe calling for "16 oz tube refrigerated cooked polenta".?

I went to a large grocery (Winn-Dixie) in Florida and asked for help finding it. They had to look it up on google to find out that it is made from corn meal. That was as much help as they could give me. If the store had any, they could not find it.

Should it be hard to get? What section of the store would it be in?

    Thanks

  • How do you get a Schrade pocket tool to release a latched blade?

I recently obtained a 2nd hand Schrade tool (kind of like a Leatherman). It opens up into a needle-nose plier, but there are also several tools (scissor, knife blade, etc.) that will unfold out of the handles. When one of these additional tools is unfolded from the handle all the way, it latches extended. I have not figured out how to un-latch them without using a separate tool to force the latching mechanism to un-latch.

Needing to carry a separate tool for un-latching kind of defeats the advantage in having all those tools in one folded up pocket tool. Am I missing a secret release?

  • Harry Potter Deathly Hallows question?

I have just re-read HP-DH for the 2nd time and I saw something I hadn't thought about the other 2 times. I hope someone can explain.

When Harry was watching Snape's memory after Snape died, Harry saw Dumbledore tell Snape that it was necessary that Voldemort kill Harry. What was the plan after that happened? Who would kill Voldemort? Harry didn't seem to wonder what would happen next. He just went off and offered himself to be killed in the forest. Did I miss something?

    Thanks.

What's up with the list of open questions? The list I see now has 2 at 6 min ago, next older 10 min ago, then 27, then 47 min ago, then 2 hours ago, there are 3 at 2 hours ago and the next jumps to 18 hours ago. Is the list incomplete due to a glitch?

  • I have 'liked' certain restaurants. So I get their daily posting of the daily special.?

My problem is their daily posting may not show up on my home page until the next day, or even 2 days later. I can see in the posting what the time was when the restaurant posted it. And I often know that I have checked my home page when the news about the daily special might have been useful to me. What causes the delay?

  • I'm trying to help someone with Physics and I need help with differentiation.?

    I have β = arcsin(b/c) where b = (15-50*t) and c is constant. So

    β = arcsin((15-50*t)/c)

I need an expression for dβ/dt, the rate of change of angle β.

  • I can't submit answers to yahoo answers.?

I'm currently a "TOP CONTRIBUTOR" in Physics. So I know how this works. But I haven't been able to submit an answer for about 1 week. I can bring up questions, but every time I click "Answer Question", I get a screen with this message:

The page you requested is secure, and you are not logged in.

The page welcomes me by name: "Welcome, sojsail", so I think that means I actually am logged in. Do you know what triggers this message?

About the time this started, Incredimail sent an update. Perhaps the incredimail update is the cause, somehow, or perhaps it's coincidence and yahoo recently made some change that affects my computer this way. Any suggestions?

  • What happens in a space capsule if a floating sphere of liquid touches a surface?

There have been TV spots from orbit with an astronaut creating a free-floating sphere of some beverage and then sneaking up on it and closing his mouth around it. What happens if one gets away and hits a control panel? (The sphere looks so much like a rubber ball I almost expect it to bounce off.)

    Thanks

  • Translate spanish phrase: yo quiero creae?

I answer physics questions at allexperts.com and "yo quiero creae" was the subject line of my latest question. Babelfish translates it to "I want creae". I could do that much.

Is creae some obscure form, like subjunctive pluperfect or something, that Babelfish couldn't handle, or is it a typo? Perhaps crear, to create?

The "additional text" says: "i need help". Usually, the additional text is where the details of the physics problem is. Maybe this person is playing with me.

  • Would the major axis of the elliptical orbit of a satellite of the moon continue to point the same way?

Would the major axis of the elliptical orbit of a satellite of the moon continue to point at the same point in space throughout the month?

Say the satellite is placed in orbit with the apogee (or I think it's more properly called apoapsis in this case) between the earth and moon. And say you made a point of noticing what star the major axis pointed at. One week later the moon has completed 1/4th of its orbit around the earth. Would the satellite's major axis still point at the same star, or would it point at the earth? If yes, would that condition continue over many months?

To really help me, please refer me to online reference(s). Or at least give me the correct terminology so I can do a search. I've read about precession that takes thousands of years. I guess Polaris won't always be our North Star. That's not the kind of change I'm wondering about.

    Thank you

  • I hope someone can identify a bird similar to Oriole or Yellow-headed Blackbird for me.?

I live in west-central Minnesota (US). I have seen an unfamiliar Baltimore Oriole sized bird on the lawn. It is primarily black. Most distinctive is the back of the head and neck which is gold colored. This gold is about the color of the Hooded Oriole in my Audubon Field Guide. Perhaps even more what you would call gold than the orange of the Hooded Oriole. (The distribution of the gold is way different.) There is a distict border between the gold and black all the way around this gold patch. There are distinct white wing patches at the shoulder and some other narrow stripes of white on the back and around the rump.

  • Need help-integration? I'm embarassed how much my math skills have slipped.?

I'm trying to determine an expression for average torque during the power stroke from a one-cylinder engine with a standard crankshaft.

Let the crankshaft angle when the piston is all the way down be 0 degrees, and when the piston is all the way up, let it be 180. Let the connecting rod be long so the angle between it and vertical can be ignored.

An expression for the instantaneous torque at 90 degrees (when the piston is halfway from bottom to top) would be

    T = F*d

where F is the force and d is the distance from the crankshaft centerline to the bearing where the connecting rod and crankshaft mate (the lever arm).

    The expression

    T = F*d*sin(theta)

should be valid while theta varies from 0 to 180, the 1/2 revolution during which power is available. )Probably F would not be a constant but let's assume it is.)

My problem is how to get the average torque over the 180 degrees of the power stroke. Please, I really need to learn how, more than I need the answer.

    Thanks

  • Why is it a no-no to use a restaurant's coupon on a date?

OK, let me explain before you clobber me. There are several situations that come to my mind.

Let's say I want to take this lady to a particular nice restaurant because I think she'll like it. I'm willing and able to pay whatever it costs to do this. But if I have a coupon, why should I not use it? If it's because I need to show that I'm not cheap, or poor, suppose I use the coupon saving me $5 and then burn a 5 $ bill. Same thing as paying full price?

Let's say I want to take this lady to an extremely nice restaurant because I think she'll like it. But on most days it's way outside of my budget. Suppose the nice place has an early bird special with a restricted menu on Tuesdays that I could afford. Should I just take her to an inferior place instead? Take her to the early bird special and tell her she needs to stick to the restricted menu? That sounds cheap, even to me, but remember - otherwise it's pizza.

Or save a few bucks and maybe then I can afford the special desert.

  • Metric vs English?

I see people comment that they hate the metric system. If we had a race, who thinks they could calculate how many inches in 12 miles faster than I could calculate how many centimeters in 12 kilometers? I'd like to start a poll.

    Other examples:

What's the weight of 1 gallon of water and mass of 4 liters of water?

What's the dimensions of a cube with volume of a gallon - or 8 liters?

How many tablespoons in 2/3 cup - or milliliters in 1/2 liter?

Can any metric haters justify their preference for a more difficult system?
