Do you get tired of people threatening suicide on YA?
I know they're sometimes a plea for help, but it seems that more often, they're someone fishing for sympathy or attention. What would you really like to say to them?
7 AnswersPsychology8 years agoWhy do men want to argue with women who hate men?
Yesterday, I asked "Why do men want to argue with feminists who hate men?" and I was informed by a couple of people that my premise was wrong --.feminists DO NOT hate men. Okay, I'll take your word for that.
Let me re-phrase my question. Why do men want to argue with women who hate men? There are many women in the world, who for whatever reason, emotional or ideological, don't like men. We could quibble over what "don't like" means, but I'm sure you understand -- they have a big chip on their shoulder and an attitude where males are concerned.
Why spend time and energy arguing with them? You're not going to change their minds with some rational argument. There are lots of women in this world who LIKE men. Why not spend your time communicating with THEM, instead of poking man-haters with sticks?

There are women in the world, who for whatever reason, don't like men. But why spend time and energy arguing with them? They have their reasons, and you're not going to change their minds with some rational argument. So why bother? There are lots of women in this world who like men. Why not spend your time communicating with them, instead of poking feminists with sticks?
I really don't understand.
12 AnswersGender Studies8 years agoIs photography the downfall of watercolor painting?
Watercolor artists seem to have given up drawing for pseudo-photography. That is, most watercolor pictures are clearly projected photographs, rendered in watercolors. Where is the drawing and the qualities that distinguish watercolors -- lively brushwork and interesting accidents?
Look at the winners of a recent watercolor painting contest:
Now look at at John Singer Sargent watercolor sketch, and imagine how much worse it would be if rendered from a photograph:

C'mon, people -- learn to draw!

I see references to these, but don't know what they mean. (I'm trying to understand the British school system).
1 AnswerTeaching8 years agoIs (or was) your Facebook experience good or bad?
I joined Facebook to stay in touch with my friends, share their life, etc..
But I quit Facebook because everyone was constantly trying to convince me of something -- left wing politics, right wing politics, pro-gay marriage, anti-gay marriage, etc etc. It was like being in a room full or sales people. But maybe that's just my set of friends. Maybe yours are different.
So how has your Facebook experience been?
4 AnswersSingles & Dating8 years agoIf Rebublicans are racists, why don't they attack Clarence Thomas?
A: Because he's conservative.
I'm getting sick of hearing that Republicans don't like Obama because he's black. That's ridiculous. They don't like him because he's liberal. If he was a conservative, they'd be building monuments to him, and having statues made.
Calling people names like "racist" isn't intelligent political discourse. It's childish.
5 AnswersGovernment8 years agoI started a Yahoo Group, then canceled my Yahoo ID . . .?
How can I either:
1. End the group?
2. Recover my ID so I can end the group?
3. Transfer ownership of the group?
1 AnswerYahoo Groups8 years agoWhy do fiction writers need help naming their characters?
I see so many writers on YA asking what to name their characters. IMO, it makes little difference, as long as the name is plausible. If Nicholas Nickleby, Holden Caulfeild or Elizabeth Bennet had other names, what difference would it make to the story?
Even if you're writing a fantasy story where every character has a unique, invented name, or a historical story where you want the names to be authentic to the period, you ought to be able to name your characters without help.
Compared to plotting, and actually writing the story, naming characters is a piece of cake, and far from the most critical factor in the success of the story.
13 AnswersBooks & Authors8 years agoHow are British doctors paid by the National Health System?
I've been watching the "Doc Martin" series about a physician in a small Cornish village. I gather that people are free to consult him for any problem. No money changes hands; no insurance is involved.
So how are physicians paid -- per patient, by salary -- or what?
Are different specialties paid different amounts?
Any other information you can share about the day-to-day operations?
2 AnswersOther - Health8 years agoHow was your Valentines Day?
Just curious. . .
I know that not everyone has someone in their life, but if you do, I'm especially interested in your Valentines Day dinner. Did you eat out at a restaurant, or at home? If at a restaurant, how was the experience?
1 AnswerValentine's Day8 years agoTell me about your Valentines Day dinner?
In my experience, Valentines Day (Feb. 14th) is the worst day to have a romantic dinner because restaurants are crowded, kitchen and servers are rushed, etc.
But maybe I'm wrong. Did you have a nice night out?
4 AnswersOther - Dining Out8 years agoWhat is the PURPOSE of the 2nd Amendment?
Why, in your words, did the founding fathers include this in the Bill of Rights?
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
5 AnswersCurrent Events8 years agoWill moderate muslims protest the murder of 3 innocent embassy officials?
So-called "moderate" muslims describe Islam as a "religion of peace." So will they ever publicly condemn the violent behavior or those who murder innocent people in the name of Islam?
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoQuestion about the British political system?
In the US, a person running for Congress must live in the district or state which he/she wants to represent. Is that true in Britain? For instance, can you live in the south and represent a northern district?
2 AnswersGovernment9 years agoHas Adultry Replaced Baseball as the National Pastime?
I see question after question on YA asking, "Should I have an affair?' or "Should I have sex with a married man or woman?" etc. Marriage and families are the foundations of our society, and affairs destroy them both. What's up with that?
1 AnswerMarriage & Divorce9 years agoWhich of these business practices say "We REALLY HATE our customers?"?
Which of these is the strongest expression of contempt for customers?
1. Automated checkout machines (because they work cheaper than real people)
2. Asian customer service or credit employees with thick accents you can barely understand.
3. "Phone trees" designed to prevent you from ever reaching a real person.
