I'm a young mom of a 6 year old little girl and I'm going to school for portrait photography and working at an after school program for elementary kids. I like to frequent the baby name section and usually waste a lot of time trying to convince askers that Madasynlynn or McKellalynn are not real names. Other than that, most of my answer topics are usually pretty random. I also used to be a Top Contributor in Baby Names until I started college again and didn't have time to keep up.

  • Is there such thing as an 'unlimited' or 'educational' serial?

For software such as Photoshop or Lightroom, is there a type of serial called "unlimited" or "Educational" where the serial can be used on more than one computer?

  • Fellow college students stealing school's Photoshop and Lightroom- aren't they going to get caught?

I'm a photography student and this year our program updated our Photoshop and Lightroom software. As we came back in the fall, they had us type in the two serial numbers written up on the board to validate our individual computers.

Several students have been writing the serial numbers down, downloading free trials on their personal computers, and getting free software by typing these two serial numbers in.

I'm positive the department will find out, yet these students think it's an 'unlimited educational serial'. I've never heard of anything like that and personally think that these serials are only working because our department bought 30 serials for 30 computers and the leftover serials people have been taking are because people aren't validating the school's software, just clicking "remind me later" like I did for a couple weeks (lazy!)

Therefore, I'm assuming the day will come when someone's school computer trial runs out and they are forced to finally type in the serial, only to find out it doesn't work.

Any opinions? (I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all tattle tale, I'm just really curious and worried for my friends who would absolutely be kicked out of the program if caught.)

Thanks in advance for any input.

  • Ex agrees my parents should get custody if I die; what form will make sure of this?

My ex and I have a 6 year old daughter whom he sees once every few months. When I went on a trip to Europe a few years ago, I obtained a document from Legal Aid for us to sign stating we both agree my parents should get custody if something happens to me. The document was lost and never signed/notarized.

However, I am about to have major surgery in December and my ex still agrees our daughter would be happier and more comfortable with my parents while he keeps his visitation.

I don't expect him to change his mind, but I would still like to have a document stating that at this time, we both agreed she should be with my parents and that my wishes are known. I have a Advance Health Care Directive but I am more concerned about my daughter's guardianship. (as of now, I have full legal and physical custody I believe)

He is not unfit, nor am I attempting to make him look so. Our daughter just knows her grandparents much better and would be happier in their care.

I need to know if a simple Power of Attorney is the best we can do, or if there is another option.

    Thank you for any help.

  • Does the driver who totaled your car still have to pay even if you don't have insurance?

A family member recently was in an accident that was completely the other driver's fault (witnesses and the police agree). My family member usually has insurance but didn't at the time because she just couldn't afford it.

I'm wondering if the other driver's insurance company can somehow get out of paying for damages because my family member was breaking the law by not having insurance.

I understand my family member will face consequences for driving an uninsured vehicle- but will she also lose out on the other driver's insurance taking responsibility?

    Thanks

  • Taking my DSLR on a last minute boat trip- any water proofing ideas?

Our camping reservations for this weekend were changed to an island about 3 miles from the shore. Naturally, the only way to get there is by boat. I seriously doubt our boat will tip over or that my camera will somehow fall into the water- but as much as I love my Kata bag, it's not water proof and I have no idea if it would float while packed with my equipment.

Any ideas on last minute (cheap) water proofing? I've thought about bags, but I'd like something that will float. The only other ideas I've come up with are some sort of Tupperware or a cooler.

    I appreciate any suggestions!

  • What model 'replaced' the Dodge Intrepid?

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid, which I love aside from a few problems I'm having. I decided that if I need a new car any time soon, I would get another Intrepid (just not with the 2.7 engine) but then I remembered they stopped making Intrepids in 2001.

Did Dodge put out a similar car after 2001? I really like the style of the Intrepids combined with how roomy they are. My second choice would probably be Pontiac Grand Prix, but I'm curious to find out if there's an Intrepid-look-alike out there.

    Thanks :)

  • SSA Top Baby Names of 2008 released today! What do you 'serious baby namers' think?

    http://www.socialsecurity.gov/cgi-bin/popularnames...

    (list of the top 1000)

Emma, predictably, overtook Emily and Isabella for the #1 spot, Ava (sadly!) very close to the top at #5. Barack jumped up the list, Hannah fell while Miley rose 151 slots.

As for the boys, Jacob is still #1 while Aiden (16) and Aidan (59) WOULD be #1 if they were combined (in my mind Aidan/en is technically the most popular boy name)

Personally, I'm a little sad that Isla (623) made the top 1,000 this year- I wish it would stay recognizable but not get popular. Especially since it basically came out of nowhere and jumped almost to the middle of the list! I'm even MORE sad that Lila is considered a substantially rising name.

I encourage you to Google for some articles on what the list means this year if you're interested.

    :)

  • Extra H? Norah, Sarah, Lilah?

How do you guys feel about the extra H on certain names?

    Sara...Sarah

    Nora...Norah

    Lila...Lilah

Does it seem unnecessary to you? Misspelled?

Personally I prefer Sarah and Lilah but I'm ambivalent about Norah/Nora. Lilah is actually creeping up my list though I doubt I'll ever use it due to the popularity of Lilly.

  • What do you think of rare names that are very similar to common names?

What are your opinions on names that are very similar to popular names? *IF* you liked such a name, do you think you'd be able to use it even while people were constantly confusing it with another name?

Examples (feel free to add your own!):

    Thane (Shane)

    Natasa (Natasha)

    Gareth (Garrett)

    Westley (Wesley)

    Gemma (Emma)

    Amelie (Emily)

    Elisabet (Elizabeth)

    Asher (Ashley)

    Lathan (Nathan)

  • Could you still use a name with a bad connotation?

You come up with the perfect name and then someone says "Oh god, like the one person in that one movie? You can NOT use that name!" or "All that names makes me think of is _______". Would you still be able to use it? If you weren't aware of the character/person with the same name, would you look them up or ignore it in case it would ruin the name for you?

I'm asking because I have Silas as my #2 boy name and although I read The Da Vinci Code and watched the movie- neither had a lasting effect on me and I don't connect the character to the name, yet any time I mention Silas it's- "Ew...like the albino? Jeez, didn't you ever see the movie the Da Vinci Code?"

Same thing when I liked the name Vada- all I heard about was Darth Vader.

What do you guys think? Could someone or has someone ruined a name for you?

  • Limewire 5 is giving me terrible results- is this happening to everyone?

I had the 4.14 version and it was hit and miss whether I would be able to connect more than one bar so I deleted it and installed the new 5 version. I searched many different things (including uber popular searches like Britney Spears just to see if I would get anything) and I can't get anything when I search in audio- and I get maybe 2 files if I search in 'all'. Is this because I'm not sharing any files?

Also I can no longer see what kind of connection the sharer has.

So, yes, I can connect to Limewire now but it's not worth it. Is this their attempt at making something really crappy so everyone will pay for the Pro version?

Should I try Frostwire? Is the selection at least as good as the previous Limewire versions?

Thanks for your help; I'm sure plenty of people are already asking questions about how crappy this version is so I appreciate it!

  • What were you almost named?

Have your parents ever told you what your name *almost* was? What about if you had been a boy? (or a girl if there happens to be a random male lurking around here!) Are you happy with your name?

For those who have kids- what were your 2nd choice names? Opposite sex names?

  • "Antique Charm" Boy Names?

Girl names come very easily for me (do you guys find that to be true for you, or the other way around?) and I definitely know my naming style. However, it's so much harder to find boy names. I like names that can be classified as 'antique charm', old fashioned, but not stuffy, sophisticated but fresh, names that have substance but are maybe a bit quirky.

    My girl list is:

    Ava (Catherine, 6 years old)

    Cora Josephine

    Esme Jocelyn

    Isla Clementine (my out-there name!)

and so far for boys, I have a very short list of names I would consider and a few that used to be on the list but weren't quite right:

    Elias

    Silas

    Otto

    (past names)

    Ambrose

    Milo

    Leander

    Theodore

    Leo

    Asher

I was hoping you guys could suggest a few more boy names that might fit my style that I could consider. I don't care for names that are too common now or were common. For example, Edward and Thomas are nice but lack punch in my opinion.

    Thanks!

  • Has Esmé been ruined by Twilight?

Esmé has been my #2 girls name for a couple years now and although I somehow got hooked on the amateurishly written Twilight books, I'm starting to wonder if Esmé will be either too popular due to the books or be an 'Oh, you must have gotten that name from ______' type of name by the time I get around to being able to use it.

On the other hand, since it's mainly fourteen-year-old girls reading the books and they hopefully won't be having children for awhile, maybe it won't happen?

Another thing that bothers me is that most people (who don't frequent baby name forums) have either never heard of Esmé or have never considered it, but now that the books are out, it's 'Oh my god! I've always loved that name, too!'

It's too bad we can't put a deposit down on names and reserve them for ourselves, huh?

  • 6 year old hit head/instant and extreme swelling to brow bone- Doctor?

My 6 year old daughter was playing with a 4 year old boy today, running around in circles and she hit her head on the back of his head. Within 2 minutes, a huge soft lump appeared on her brow bone. No skin was broken and she didn't show signs of a concussion. Her vision and everything else is fine other than this gigantic lump that is now forcing her eye to close more and more.

I called ask-a-nurse and they recommended the E.R. (which I'm pretty sure they legally have to since that's all they ever say) I decided not to bring her tonight and instead kept it iced and gave her ibuprofen.

I'm alarmed at the rate the swelling occurred and I want to know if that is normal for an injury to this area. I suppose I'll know whether I need to take her in when she wakes up but I'm trying to do some online research and couldn't find much. Does anyone have any information on this type of injury?

    Thank you!

(also, the lump is between the size of a marble and a grape)

  • Are the digital channels supposed to look this horrible?

I have a digital tv I just bought less than a year ago and I haven't bothered with buying cable so I just bought rabbit ears and get about 12-15 channels; 4 of which are digital. The digital channels are crystal clear when they actually come in, but 99% of the time they are pixalated looking, blocky, freeze, and look like I'm watching a dvd that keeps skipping.

Is it because of my tv? (I went cheap, yes, and bought a Dynex) or my location? (just outside of town in an apartment building). What do YOUR digital channels look like? Would it be better if I got a box?

    Thanks!

  • Broken Jacket Zipper- Can I fix it or should I forget it?

I have a coat that the zipper slider is missing on. I can't just get a quick cheap repair and have the slider replaced because the teeth at the end of the zipper are pretty messed up and the coat had started to open at the bottom after I zipped.

I don't intend on fixing it myself because I've never done a zipper that needs to open on the bottom (just ones on the backs of dresses I've made) unless it's just as easy.

How much is it to replace a whole zipper? Is it easy to do on my own? Would a fabric store even have a zipper that long? (large women's coat)

  • Are my Intrepid problems due to hot weather?

I have a 2000 Intrepid and this summer (and last summer), I've had some problems with it. Last summer it began when I was driving at 55 (had been for about 20 minutes) and the RPMs suddenly shot up and the car jerked. A few days later I noticed the RPMs were unusually high for the mph. Then it started dying. It would die if I was going 10 mph, 0, mph, or 70. It didn't matter. The engine would shut off but the lights and radio would be working fine and my steering wheel would lock up within seconds. (after waiting a few minutes it would start). Sometimes it wouldn't start when I got in the car.

A mechanic said it may be the fuel injector (I think) and told me to keep track of what the conditions were when it happened. Then fall came (in MN) and it was fine all winter. Since June, the car has started to do the same thing and someone mentioned a probnlem with something boiling inside that would only happen in the hot weather. MN weather can range from -30 to 100.

    Any ideas?

  • I'm meeting my teenage half siblings for the second time in my life...what activities should I do with them?

When I was a baby, my mom left my abusive father and married my new dad (I'm 21). I always knew my brother (24) and I had a half brother and half sister (she is 14, he is 16). Since their mom finally left our father, we've been talking a little on the internet and my 5 year old daughter and I met them once.

They are coming today for the afternoon and I don't think my older brother will come because he is working (and he's kind of iffy on whether he wants to meet them or not). Their grandma is leaving them with me.

I know it's going to be awkward either way but I don't know what to do with them. I live in Fargo, so there are plenty of things to do (not really any lakes though) and the there is a fair a few towns away but my daughter and I went last night and it's like 92 degrees today.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!
