How do I tell my younger sister she is putting on a lot of weight?
I know I'm not the skinniest of people either but I am really worried. She is nearly 15 and started developing bad habits a few years ago but now I think her habits have grown far worse over the last year. Everyday when she comes home from school, she'll go on her laptop and phone and will basically stay on it for the rest of the night. A lot of the time she eats in the sitting room, not bothered to eat with her own family and the dinner table. So, when she is on her laptop (which is nearly 24/7) she is constantly eating something, be it a chocolate, bar, bag of crisps, peanuts, etc basically just bad fatty foods. She also takes a lot of sugary drinks, now she does drink lots of water too but she is keen on stuff like lucozade and so on.
My family constantly mention to her that she needs to watch what shes eating and not to eat so much. My dad, however can be a lot more cruel and he will tell her straight out "I can see the fat on your face" or "you need lose a lot of fat." I don't really agree with this method because as teenagers, I know how insecure and self-conscious some can be. She is not the smartest of people so I'm worried if I told her flat out about the situation she putting herself in, she might do something drastic such as develop bulimia or something. In recent times, she apparently had been cutting because of family issues but to be honest, I didn't really inspect that element.
What worries me a lot if she does not seem to to notice (at least, she does not show it) she is piling on weight. I'm confused how she has not noticed. Us teenagers, constantly give about ourselves. Look, I would eat crappy foods too but at least I acknowledge that fact. She doesn't. Does she think what she is doing is normal? I know, give 2 years, she will seriously noticed the effects her bad eating habits have put on her body. She is only fourteen and maybe a little less observant?
So...what exactly could I do? I don't want to be harsh and tell her she's getting quite fat, as I think it is a very sensitive issue and it has to be handled carefully. I've tried telling my dad to stop buying sugary stuff for her sake, not mine, but he seems reluctant. I might be able to convince him, but he makes crappy excuses like "I'm too old for that now." My mom eats lots of crap too so if I can get my dad to stop buying it, it will improve her health as well which would be a great plus.
My sister does get pocket money, and you can't really argue with that (she does spend it all on rubbish, unfortunately.) I don't get pocket money though, as I am not really bothered. She's a lot more sociable.
So, referring back to the question, my sister is really putting on the weight. Its especially visible on her face and around her tummy (shes pretty round looking now.) The sad thing is she is such a pretty and photogenic girl. When you look at photos when she was younger, anyone could tell you that. She has let herself slip in recent years and I am worried how this is going to affect her later. She is only 14 and should by right, have a healthy lifestyle. In my opinion, the direction she heading herself towards is a nasty one. With all the sugar she takes, I wouldn't be surprised if tomorrow morning she got checked out and was diagnosed with diabetes.
So, how do I handle the situation? Do I try get her to exercise with me? She does do soccer but that's like only once a month. When she came home from soccer yesterday, she was proper wrecked who shows just how unfit she is. I'm sorry this is long, and if you've read till now, thank you very much..Any one else been in a similar situation? I have two older siblings and they're a normal weight. Any suggestions? I've try subtly putting the notion in her head, but she she just doesn't seem to care and that is worrying.

1 AnswerWater Sports8 years agoMy neighbours dog got scratched in the eye help please?!!?
I live in a small estate and my neighbour's dog lives right opposite me and is free to wander to estate on his own without a lead. He comes to our often, mostly on saturdays because that is when his own works from 9am- 2am. I witnessed "Buddy" fighting another neighbours cat today and I am kind of scrarred because I love both of them animals so much, luckily the cat escaped but he scratched "Buddy" in the eye and I am literally terrified what will happen.
We contacted his owner at work with a phone, and he didn't really say anything except he can do nothing but look at him at 2.30. I'm sure the dog is in a lot of pain and he's in our kitchen atm. It looks like a really lazy eye and I'm just worried about infection and possibly blindness?? Is it too long to have him wait another 8 hours like this?
We have no authority really to bring him to the vet, unless the owner tells us too but we can't really ask him that as it could be a little unfair on his part as he is one of those people working long hours at the weekend for little enough pay and maybe you can understand I don't know
Any tips? I'm afraid if I try anything that I'll make the eye worse.
5 AnswersDogs8 years agoWould English Lit. and German be a good degree?
These are 2 of three of my favourite subjects at school. (English, German and Art)
I'm definitely a lot more creative, than mathematical. I study music as well which I like too!
Atm I'm just wondering about my future and what jobs are in demand, what's the best degree to go for that would suit me.
I suppose Journalism could have been an option but the whole no demand thing has really put me off and I mentally am unable to even think of going down that route! Most of my life, I've always aspired to be a teacher but obviously my mind has started opening up toward other career paths, but I still like the whole teaching idea.
I am thinking of this degree atm. What are you opinions? What jobs could I get out of this and is there any demand? I also like Art very much. I like the practical stuff and the history. I also did a bit of work experience with a graphic designer a couple of weeks ago, which I found actually quite interesting!
I hear that there is little demand for art teachers, but again most of my life I had always been drawing and scoring high grades in this subject? Higher even then the other two which I mentioned.
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)8 years agoShould I get my eyebrows done?
I'm 16 and I had them done firstly around Christmas time (I was 15 back then doesn't matter tho)
At the moment, they're looking quite overgrown and not very shaped so I want to go back but I don't really like the person who did my eyebrows for me. She is a professional working at a salon and everything but I don't know, I feel like last time when I told something about my eyebrows when she finished them such as "Are they too thin" or whatever she looked so insulted and gave me a dirty look (maybe I'm reading this wrong tbh, but she was just like silent?) She did asked me if I liked them. I was just telling the truth lol. And I actually did like them! I really liked them but I don't know, something abotu the person that works there is holding a barrier.
Should I tell my mom? Last week I told her that I felt so horrible one of my eyebrows was shorter than the other. I then told I plucked it and she started shouting at me saying "let only professionals touch yours eyebrows" Okay fine. So I was just going to head down today, take out some money but yeah....
it's sort of the only place where I live....

3 AnswersPainting8 years agoshould 16 year olds have jobs?
i'm not the most social lol and I don't really care about money (i don't have much at the same time)
i feel fine the way I am but I mean all the jobs I want are like teaching, looking after animals, not packing shelves in a supermarket. I also live in a small town so that'd be my only option really, but I'm not guaranteed obviously
I know lots saying, "Oh. I want a job!!! I need a job"
should all 16 yr olds want jobs lol
I'd rather do some volunteer work but there's an age limit like the animal shelter that you have to be 21 and I'm not.

I want Buddy as a nickname for a name it could actually be a nickname for!! So nothing like "Oh it can be a nickname for anything, like George, Ryan..." I know all that, but I just really want it so sound like a shortened version for a name.
This is for a story I am writing
2 AnswersBooks & Authors8 years agoWhat are the names of your characters?
In any books, short stories you might have written
7 AnswersBooks & Authors8 years agoShould I switch schools or not? (10 points)?
All right. I'll try be as honest as I possibly can.
Current school: I feel I don't belong. Over the years, I feel I've really lost myself and I can't explain how but I have. I used to be sort of confident in my primary days, and once I stepped foot in secondary that all completely left. I decided to do the extra optional year at my school this year, so my best well closest friend is a year above me now and she will be gone after next year.
I don't hate the people in my class. I mean, I get through it every day. A lot of them are friendly when they're on their own, but when they are with their friends I feel as if they don't want to know me which is probably just me being paranoid I know.
I just feel unhappy, even with my current friendhip-ishes...(don't really have any) Teachers like me, and I guess nobody actually hates me but I really feel lost there. I haven't gone to a friends house since I started secondary. I never go to parties. I have zero social life and it's really bringing me down. I want to take charge of my life. I want to have fun. I feel as if I've missed it through my teenage years. All I've done is gotten good grades, and while that's great for me because I kind of love education and learning, I kind of need more.
I'm stuck in the house practically every holiday. I think about joining outside classes (I'm taking up tennis this week but that's just private lessons with my sisters) but my town is soo sleepy it offers absolutely nothing! I love art, writing, German, music. I also do piano but I need more social classes.
I got offered a job as a babysitter today and my stomach twisted at the thought of it!!!
So back to the point. Nobody in the school really knows me. I haven't changed my facebook picture in over two years, but then again I make it look like I never go on. I need help. My parents think i'm joking when I say it.
I actually need to scream so badly but my mom is asleep atm lol.
Should I move schools? Start fresh? My parents ACTUALLY said that I should. They are the ones who got me thinking about this. And while, at the time they told me I felt so sick like I didn't want to move, I didn't say anything incase I would change my mind because who knows, maybe it's what I need.
1 AnswerPrimary & Secondary Education8 years agohow to get money to go to the lion king!!! 10 pts?
1 AnswerTheater & Acting8 years agoHow do I get money to go to the Lion King?
I really want to go, and so does my mom but the only tickets left now are at €40 and she said she'd only got if they were €25 which they were in like October.
Don't blame me for not getting the tickets soon enough, I didn't really know about it then.
My mom never goes to anything and she just told me she'd love to go to this but obviously isn't interested in paying the big ifty prices. Is there any way I could like earn €80 so that we could go?
I can't walk dogs, clean cars...all right. Don't say get a job.
6 AnswersRoyalty8 years agoAm I having a growth spurt?
I'm 15 and 5ft 11 (female)
As you may imagine, I really don't want to grow any taller!!
But anyways, today I have been eating CONSTANTLY like for my lunch I ate a cheese sandwich and crisps and a big bowl of porridge directly after along with custards creams and then lasange 3 hours later...and then a carrot stick. I also ate a granola bar, cornflakes, a yoghurt...etc.
I also drank lots of water. I also had quite a sore throat today so I don't know if it was because of hunger or because I wanted to distract myself from the pain by eating all the time!
