  • How did you take travel money to Olu Deniz?

    Hello,

I am with HSBC and have a Maestro card, and I am going at the end of July for 10days, bed and breakfast.

Do you think £400 would be enough to take, and what method would be best in your experience?

Traveller's cheques, withdrawing money at an ATM while I am there, or exchanging the whole £400 here in the UK to take with me?

Also, are there any banks in the resort of Olu Deniz?

    Thanks :)

  • Can I start my pill at any time of my cycle?

I've been on Microgynon 30 for years, but I lost my last packet of pills and didn't know where I was up to, so stopped taking them altogether so I can start again, so I stopped having sex.

I'm not pregnant, but I also haven't had my period yet even though I've been off the pill for over a month.

My spots have started appearing again and I would like to go back on the pill as soon as possible, but my period might not come again for ages, so my question is, can I just start my pill now, even though I'm not on my period yet?

    Thanks people :)

  • Laser eye surgery or contact lenses?

    Hi,

    I'm 21 and have known I'm short-sighted since I was around 6.

Over the years my eyesight has gradually gotten worse and worse (things become very blurry less than a foot away).

The lenses in my glasses are very thick, so I have to add thick frames (even if I got the lenses thinned they would still be very thick). Having a small nose, my glasses are heavy and slip down all the bloody time!

So I began wearing 30-day contact lenses as a teenager and I am now starting to have lots of trouble with them (irritating me, itching, infections etc.)

I am considering Laser eye surgery to get rid of all the hassle but the risk of losing my eyesight would be a big blow for me - I start university in September as a student nurse.

However, I am going on holiday for the first time in July with friends and know that I won't be able to have as much freedom when we're messing in the pool or sea etc. I never learned to swim in deep water properly because I can't see anything, I'm too scared!

So my question is - go for laser eye surgery with a leading company (UK), or opt for daily contact lenses instead so I can throw them away every night? (I wouldn't be able to open my eyes under water obviously, but if I lost them or got chlorine on them I could use a new pair instead of using my glasses as I would have to with 30-day contacts).

Sorry it's really long! Thanks for reading :)

  • Capital One credit card minimum payment?!?

I am a fool and in financial trouble with this credit card.

I have the Capital One Classic Visa credit card, and have a balance of over £1,000.

I read about credit cards before I applied for it and was under the impression that minimum monthly payments were the minimum of what I need to pay off to avoid having to pay interest - am I completely wrong?

Is the monthly minimum actually just the monthly interest I'm paying?

Or am I paying a percentage of my balance to avoid the interest?

Thanks for reading, I'm desperate x

  • Oh no, lost birth certificate :(?

I have a university interview on Tuesday and have just realised that I cannot find my original birth certificate anywhere!

    Or my passport :(

Does anyone know, if I went to my local authority town hall and requested my birth certificate, would I receive it straight away or have to wait for it?

And does anyone know how long a passport can take to arrive?

    Thanks for reading :)

  • Changing my UCAS personal statement, please help :(?

I paid for and sent off my UCAS application weeks ago, and have received some letters saying some of the uni's are processing my application.

Reading back through my personal statement just now, I have realised I am stupid, and have written that I am applying for a degree, when I have actually applied for a diploma :-(

Would you consider this as a really bad mistake, and do you know if I can ask UCAS to let me change, or know a way I can change it myself?

    Thanks for reading :)

  • UCAS personal statement help!?

Please can you give any advice on how to make this sentence correct in terms of grammar and structure? I'm not too sure about my positioning of comma's either!

"Along with my part-time job, I have recently became a member of St.John Ambulance and am soon to begin training as a first aid volunteer, as I wish to improve on my skills and gain experience in health care."

    Thanks :)

  • Any nurses out there who overcame being bad at maths?

I've always been crap at maths no matter how hard I tried.

I'm about to begin a course in nursing and I am a novice to it all. I know that a lot of maths is involved in nursing and is vital to get correct.

Are there any nurses who were bad at maths but have overcome it while studying for nursing?

  • A career in Nursing - Can it lead to more?

I am about to begin a short access course in Nursing for adults, with either midwifery or allied health professions studies combined.

I am interested in midwifery, but I am also interested in working with in cancer care. My Mother fought breast cancer in 2004 and I think I have a good understanding of what's involved.

Can studying nursing take me there eventually or have I started at the wrong place?

  • My boyfriend eats like a student

My boyfriend is 24 and is a Policeman, so his work patterns are very varied and sometimes means having his meals at a takeaway when he works overnight. This happens quite often.

However even when he has a day off where meal times are normal, he prefers to eat pizzas, burgers, chips, boiled eggs, creamy desserts, cheese, pies, scotch eggs and as many sweets as he can handle.

He does not like salad or vegetables (apart from roast or mash potatoes, and sweetcorn), and will only eat apples and grapes.

I'm no angel myself, but really willing to change our diet, whereas he denies that his diet is poor.

Also, he has a varicose vein on his thigh, which burst recently. I heard that poor diet and high salt intake can cause this?

Does anyone know any websites, recipes or chefs who have good recipes that I can use to make him like more healthy food, and what will happen to him if he doesn't change?

Will I have to trick him into eating healthier food like a child?

    Thanks :)

  • I'm so confused about my pill please help :(

I want to come off the pill because I have messed it all up!

I normally finish the packet on a tuesday, have my 7day break from the day after on the wednesday, and start taking my next packet the following wednesday.

I realised on Thursday that I'd finished my packet on a wednesday instead of a tuesday, and have no idea when I missed a pill to make that happen.

So I went straight onto the next packet of pills (starting them on a Thursday instead of a Wednesday now), and even missed one yesterday because I could not get home to take it!!

So it's like my pill cycle has skipped forward a whole day now and I'm really confused.

Have I really messed up here and should I come off them, I've been on them for 4yrs now and people are telling me that I need to take a break from them now?

Or am I ok to carry on with them like this, with a day moved forward on my pills??

  • Advice from any woman on the contraceptive injection?

I am 20 and have been on the contraceptive pill (Microgynon 30) since I was 16. It has given me some benefits such as getting rid of spots and obviously has been a form of contraception.

However I am beginning to have trouble remembering to take them!

I would like to go on the injection and would like to know the pros and cons of it?

Would it still help with my spots, will my periods become irregular, or am I better off getting the implant?

Any advice and experience would be appreciated please :)

  • Experienced skin cancer from sun exposure?

I have a friend who insists that sunbathing for several hours, around 7hrs none stop, with no sun lotion, is safe.

I keep trying to tell her how dangerous it is and she argues that people get skin cancer from using sun lotion because of the chemicals inside it!

I'd like to hear experiences from people who have been diagnosed with skin cancer or similiar because of excessive sun bathing, and how it affected them.

It annoys me to know that she is Spain right now frying herself and won't accept how dangerous it is.

  • Milk in the morning causing bad cramps?

When I get up and take milk on an empty stomach, for example in a cup of tea or with cereal, I get cramps after 20mins and they are agony. But if I take milk later in the day after eating nothing happens.

What could be wrong with me? People are saying lactose intolerance but if it was surely I'd be in pain everytime I drink milk?

  • People who try and solve problems using religion?

I know they mean well, but do they have any part in their minds that tell them to use real, proven facts and pieces of advice that explain what to do?

I feel sorry for the people who ask questions about sex and marriage and get bombarded with answers where God is used.

I believe in God, but I also believe in science, since it has all been proven.

I guess it just really bugs me when a young girl or boy asks a question about sex or relationships, and someone answers with "God does not want you to have sex, wait until you are married it is a sin" and so on. There is no explanation, no help, no advice, nothing. Nothing is proven, there are no facts and it doesn't make any sense! It's like saying "If you have sex a monster will come out and kill you."

I know I'm going to get a lot of angry people replying to my question now, but any stuff about God - it won't work. I need facts.

    Anyone else agree?

  • I had a fall out with a friend but she has invited me to her house party, what would you do?

Last year I had a strange fall out with a good friend who I miss very much, we had lots in common.

Recently she completed her Uni course and I decided to make a gesture to show her I still care; I sent her a card congratulating her and her housemates. She replied with a text to thank me and that was the last I heard,

Until today she sent me a text message inviting me to her leaving house party on Tuesday. I am scared to go?!

I have no idea how I should act, should I act as though nothing has happened first while we're around our friends and then talk properly another time? I really don't want to blow it again with her. What would you do?

  • How to reconcile with a friend? Please help me?

I met Sara in college nearly 4yrs ago and we were very close, she had lots of troubles and we were like family.

In November 2007 we stopped talking, I was having problems with her inconsiderate behaviour towards other friends of ours.

We were at university, and she moved into a student house with 4 of our other close friends. Since we stopped speaking things have been allover the place for all of us and I think it is getting ridiculous.

Everyone has told me she has changed now and I am considering reconciling with her and make things work for both for us, and for our friends.

There was no bitterness between us but I know that she had given up on conacting me. She can be stubborn as can I.

What can I do to reconcile? I made such a mistake just dropping contact with her instead of talking it out, I'm not sure she will want to know anymore.

I want to send the student house a card saying congratulations to them all for completing their university course? Thanks!

  • Sensation of a fish bone stuck in throat please help?

My mum has a very irritating sensation like a fish bone has stuck into the back of her mouth, where her left tonsil is.

She has felt it for around 2 months now and no remedies have worked, such as swallowing bread etc.

She has been to see our doctor who couldn't see anything with a torch, nor anything through a regular xray.

Has anyone else experienced this and been diagnosed with anything? Any ideas on what it could be? She is really suffering with this, thanks

  • Anyone from the UK been accepted onto a nursing course at uni with no experience?

All my life I studied english and art hardest; I completed a 2 year course at college in art and design then was accepted into uni to study graphic design - all a big mistake!

I soon realised my heart wasn't in it, and I want a stable career - healthcare has always been an interest as my mum has always worked in it.

I am now 20 and the only experiences I have are places I have worked and courses I have studied which have no relevance to nursing. Do I have a chance?
