Does the Asker still get 3 points returned when Q is resolved by vote?
It says in the Y!A (Answers) points table [ http://answers.yahoo.com/info/scoring_system;_ylt=... ] that the Asker gets 3 pts returned when they choose BA. For years most people thought that if the Q was let go to vote the Asker did not get back 3 pts, as that statement implies, but they did. One user did a test question on this that proved it, which is what I'm doing now, to see if this has finally been changed.
I will let this Q go to vote and I will post results in the comment box afterwards.
3 AnswersYahoo Answers8 years agoHow would you feel if Neanderthal DNA was discovered to be the origin of light hair/complexion/and/or eyes?
. . . if it turns out to so be . . . or if it has been established, one way or the other, if anyone knows . . .
I do not know if there have, or have not, been any studies done about this. This question is simple curiosity. It may well be coincidental/parallel evolutionary processes in the two species.
It is so far known that Neanderthals did have red haired, light complexioned (including freckles), and blue eyed individuals. This fits in with the model of those characteristics being more prevalent in the Northwestern European general area. That is: it places those characteristics in the same general locale as Neanderthals were known to have also been located. It is also well established that there was intermingling of homo sapiens and homo neanderthalensis. Neanderthals did not just "become extinct/disappear", their genes were absorbed/combined into our common genetic pool.
"They're" lurking about in there somewhere . . . or is it "we" :-) ?
6 AnswersAnthropology8 years agoIs/was it "Neandertalensis/Neandertal" or "Neanderthalensis/Neanderthal"?
This is something that has "bothered" me for a while . . . more so as time goes by. This changing of words by popular usage irritates me in general but this one does so in particular. I learned early on to say/spell Neandertal (no "h"). Now you have to force google to pull up results without the "h" (there are plenty but you have to override google adding the "h"). Can anyone give me a reliable source that even discusses this, because I can't find one. It seems to me that the "h" has been added by popular usage, but if so, why does the scientific "Neanderthalensis" also appear? Do we change scientific names by popular usage? Most (all) anthropologists/scientists I've heard (several) verbally say "tal", not "thal". Would we not bridle at "homo sapiens" being changed to "homo sappiens"? Which "Neander-tal/thal" was original, and/or is now correct?
5 AnswersAnthropology8 years agoJust what is Yahoo! Insider trying to tell me?
When I open Yahoo! Messenger, it automatically opens Yahoo! Insider (guess that name comes from being inside of Messenger!?). This morning it told me "About 10 million people share your birthday.".
My real question is: Is that estimate based on my specific birthdate, or is it an average based on the total World population divided by the days of a year?
3 AnswersOther - Yahoo Messenger9 years agoWhich famous Rock & Roller inexplicably recorded the following cover songs?
Song titles followed by artist that made the song famous:
"Let It Be Me" - Everly Brothers
"I Can't Help Falling In Love With You" - Elvis Presley
"Early Morning Rain" - Gordon Lightfoot
"Blue Moon" - The Marcels
"House of the Rising Sun" - The Animals
"The Boxer" - Simon & Garfunkel
"Gotta Travel On" - Bill Monroe
Bonus: Please name some other artists/bands and cover songs they recorded that they probably shouldn't have or, at least, you wouldn't have expected them to.

1 AnswerHistory1 decade agoWhat's the best way to clean bathroom rugs?
The kind with a rubber backing. They're pretty flexible and I thought I might do a washer and dryer (low heat) on them. The top of one type is like a berber and the other is plush. They're about 2' X 3' or so.
24 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoIf you're a musician/vocalist or would like to be, which one would you choose?
1) Play/sing whatever music you want to and get by financially. . . . . or . . .
2) Play/sing only what someone else wants you to and become rich and famous.
Be careful what you wish for!

12 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoWhat band/artist has done a Beatles song better than The Beatles?
This Q was prompted by a similar question (about who to cover and who not to) and I couldn't think of one, although it seems like there would be. No band/artist has ever been covered nearly as often.

If it is - where would I send it? I stumbled across an interesting Q with what I thought was an exceptional answer and believe it to be worthy of consideration.
4 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoAnybody know why "Undecided Questions" from 2 yrs. ago still show?
I'm just curious. You cannot access them, at least a couple of pages of them, when you click on one you get "That question has been deleted". Presumably that means it's been resolved.
I go back to help clear out old Qs and this makes it difficult to find the beginning of the ones that you CAN vote on.
7 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoAnyone else think that incorrect answers (in fact-based Qs) should be dis-allowed as BA?
I'm not talking about opinion-based Qs & As here so please don't go there.

I have been asked for proof of this request by Y!AT (it was a month or two ago) in the forum and did not keep it. It is not currently posted.
1 AnswerYahoo Answers1 decade agoWhat is the best way to invest $100,000 to $120,000 in the stock market?
I'm thinking about purchasing half in alternative energy related stocks, maybe $10k each (if I can find 5 or 6 good ones) and half in a personal opinion stock that is about to split 3:1 and is the only company in it's field.
