How does one practice Lectio Divina? What are your personal experiences with Lectio Divina? What insights have you gained and/or what have you learned? Any and all comments, thoughts, and ideas are very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Why impose gender on something that has no gender? Doesn't it make more sense that "God" is ultamately beyond such coarse human labels?

This is mainly directed towards practicing Christians. I know many atheists will argue agains all Christianity and religion in general, but this question is only in regards to Orthodox vs. Protestant Christianity. Please be thoughtful and respectful in your answers. Thank you in advance :)

I'm genuinely curious how often people encounter death. Is it often? Or is it rare? It seems to me that western society (or at least American society) really tries to ignore and hide death as if it doesn't even exist. To see a corpse is an excellent reminder of our impermanence and shared human nature. In my opinion, it helps put life in perspective so we can see that all of life as ever so precious.

Or is uncertainty the only certainty?

I had this assignment for a class in which I had to come up with a life's mission statement. Something in terms of how I want to live in all areas of life. This is what I came up with:

My mission is to live deeply in each moment in order to alleviate the suffering of both myself and others.

- I vow to do no harm and treat all I meet with peace, kindness, and compassion. I will live simply, with present moment awareness, and practice the virtue of generosity by sharing with those in need.

- I vow to take care of this body every day, with adequate exercise and proper nutrition, to aid in the care of the mind so I can have the strength to keep myself open to the suffering of the world.

- Above all else, I am to stress the importance of skillfulness in all I do physically, verbally, and mentally.

I am in need of a tripod that can easily be used in hiking adventures. I also can't afford anything above $100. I came across the Trekpod II which seems to be a perfect fit. It can be used as a monopod, tripod, and hiking stick. It is under $100 and has a lifetime warranty.

I'm just wondering if anybody has any experience using a trekpod. I'm also questioning whether or not it will hold my camera, a Canon EOS Rebel XT with a 55-250mm lens. I am welcoming any opinions and/or suggestions about purchasing a decent quality, low budget, tripod that can be used for nature and wildlife photography. Thank you in advance :)

Or do you just see the word "Buddhism" and instantly freak out due to feelings of intolerance, hatred, and ill-will. Just a suggestion, but maybe if you read some of the answers you are thumbs downing, it might help alleviate those feelings. In the texts, Mara is sometimes described like a buddhist devil, a so called anti-deity. Other times it seems Mara is only the workings of a defiled mind. Either way, the Buddha had much contact and familiarity with Mara, and was able to see him for what he truly was. So I am curious about other points of view on this. Who / What is Mara to you?

I understand that buddhist monks eat only once or twice a day. I also know that there are certain foods and drinks that are allowed after midday. Can anyone tell me what these are? Do these foods also need to be offered?
