  • Not working my notice period?

On Saturday because my mum was rocking around saying she was in agony with her stomach. I didn't know what to do so I called a medical hotline (111) & they told me to take her to A&E.

I was due to work so called my manager & told her I needed to take my mum to hospital so couldn't come in. First she tried to convince me to leave my mum at home on her own and come to work anyway. When I refused, she got shirty with me.

Now I have 0 respect for her and 0 desire to work under her ever again. I'm resigning, and I'm going to tell her I won't be working my notice period either because I'll stay home with my mum while she recovers instead.

Fortunately I have another job as well as this, so I have no need of a reference from this manager nor will I be left with an unexplainable gap in my employment history if I erase this job from my CV.

Is there anything they can actually do to me? I've read they can sue you but I think that's unlikely. Also I've only worked one shift since payday so they can't even threaten to withhold my wage.

Also, should I state my grievances in my resignation letter?

  • Taken too many laxatives?

My mum was quite constipated after we went on holiday due to a lack of veg. When we got back, she took some laxatives to help things along. The packet recommended taking two, but she ended up taking six within about five minutes and within an hour they'd worked (packet said 8-12 hours to kick in). Anyway, now she's extremely bloated and has had dihorrea for more than 24 hours. She can't sit down or lie on her stomach because it hurts too much.

She's been drinking plenty of water and had just started being able to eat again. Anything else she can do? Earliest doctor's appt is about 3 week from now so not really a viable alternative. A&E is a bit extreme considering she's otherwise fine and she's stayed home since she took them to be near a toilet anyway!

  • How to deal with a passive aggressive friend?

A friend of mine is going through some stuff at the moment and had become really passive aggressive and tense in the meanwhile. If I try to converse with her she immediately shuts me down -- her favourite phrases include "I don't care" and "this is boring". Unless we find ourselves in a disagreement. She seems to be trying to blow off steam on all her friends.

I need to be there for her. I don't want to be worn down. But I want to know how I can deal with her without becoming frustrated.

  • If your card is declined does the money get taken from your account later?

I work in retail and sometimes people's cards get declined. When they do, a little receipt saying please debit my account for XXX amount is automatically printed. This receipt is intended for the cardholder.

Does this mean the money will come out of their account when they have it/the account is working again? Because usually they then try an alternative payment and wouldn't that then mean they'd be charged twice?

  • Do they sell postcards in Dubai airport?

I'm flying to Bangkok at the end of this month and have one stop in Dubai on the way there. It's not for long enough to leave the airport, but I'd still like to buy my friends and family a postcard from Dubai airport for the two hours that I'm there.

Does anyone know if they actually sell them?

  • Is this a virus email or legit?

This morning I recieved an email from "iTunes Store" (email address "noreply@reportaproblem.apple.com).

It was telling me that I'd bought a product (it doesn't say if it's an app or whatever, just says product) called CoPilot Premium HD for £40 (which I haven't).

It also said that if I didn't authorise the purchase I should click on the following link. I haven't clicked the link.

I'm really feeling that this is a scam but don't want to lose £40 if it isn't! What do you think?

  • Did I read the situation correctly?

Obviously I can't mindread so here is the situation as I experienced it:

Dating a guy for three months. Never officially together. To begin with he is sweet, romantic, takes me out, treats me nice etc. Later he begins to be more grumpy, rude, no longer takes me anywhere, no conversation, no wanting to hang out with me regularly.

I take this as him losing interest because I know how I feel and how that makes me act and he's not acting like he thinks of me anymore. So I tell him we should cool it & be platonic only because I don't want this to be one sided. He replies quickly with lots of smiley faces, agreeing with me. Then next time I try starting a conversation he just doesn't reply.

Did I hurt him because he was just getting complacent but was actually still interested or is this him just taking the opportunity to be rid of me finally? Did he mean it when he agreed to just be friends?

  • How to teach someone to not be inconsiderate?

I have a friend who is HORRIBLY rude. It's so hard to make plans with them -- they won't set a meeting time, instead saying they'll "let me know" on the day. This means I'm forced to turn them down if I have other commitments, because I just can't honestly say if I'd be ready or not. On multiple occasions they've actually FORGOT that they've agreed to meet me and called the whole thing off or worse, stood me up. This leaves me seriously frustrated and angry.

I've tried messaging them reminders but they get really upset saying I'm "rushing them". If they do show up, they're ALWAYS 1-2 hours late with no explanation or apology. That's probably the worst part. They NEVER apologise for wasting my time.

I don't know what to do. Except for their extreme unreliability, they're a good friend. But at times I wonder if their friendship is worth the buckets of disappointment that come along with it.

How can I show them that they're skating on thin ice without coming across like I'm trying to dictate how they should live their life?

  • Are all guitars the same thickness around the neck?

So I'm making my friend a few guitar wall hangers out of U shaped tool hangers for their birthday. BUT I don't know anything about guitars.

Are all guitars the same thickness around the neck? Because I'm worried about them fitting in the tool hanger. I dont have a guitar to test it on and my friend has like 4 and they wouldn't lend me them ALL so I can test them so they all fit... Yeah, I need help lol

  • Is he messing with my mind purposely?

I've been seeing this guy for about two months and I think he has a dark side. Most of the time we're great but sometimes he gets really weird when I talk to him. He's monosyllabic and acts like he's got something going on. When I ask what's wrong he refuses to be pinned down on it and says stuff like "maybe everything, maybe nothing". It's like he's purposely trying to frustrate me.

And when he's like this, refusing to engage with me properly, he bores me. I feel physically sick when he bores me because I really, really like him. It's like I can't compute the two states in my head. I'm the kind of person that loves to have my friends and more all figured out -- I've asked him literally every question in the book. I could tell you everything from his favourite vegetable to what he'd colour he'd want to be if he were a dragon, but I can't figure out why he gets into this state with me.

I wonder if this is all me (I get in weird moods myself sometimes and I might be projecting if he's just tired or something). But he also revealed that he used to be depressed in his teens, so I'm wondering if this is some of that which comes to the surface in him sometimes.

Can anyone relate? Give me advice? I've had depressed family members and I can deal with then effectively but I can't deal with him because he shuts me out and I don't even know if that's the issue.

  • Hobbycraft interview format and questions?

I have a second interview at Hobbycraft (UK) this afternoon. I'm really nervous with interviews and wondering what the format will be this time.

My first interview lasted 1 hr 40, but we only spent 10 mins on questions. They asked what I knew about the business, what crafts I do, why I wanted to work there, my strengths & weaknesses and how I'd upsell to a customer buying card blanks. The other time was us all crafting and looking round the shop.

Anyone been through this process and know what they'll ask this time? Will they really grill me?

  • Is it valid to take a photo of your passport instead of photocopying it for work?

I've been offered a new job and need to send them a photocopy of my passport. However I don't have access to photocopier or scanner, and I won't be able to get into town to use the library one for a few days. I need to get this in ASAP otherwise I'm going to miss pay day this month.

Is a photo, printed out, just as valid? I mean will they accept it?

  • Magnetic paint question?

I have been considering buying magnetic paint but have read lots of bad reviews online saying it doesn't work without loads of coats and is basically rubbish. It's also very expensive.

I'm considering making my own by buying iron powder online and mixing it with some wall paint I have in my cupboard. Would this work? Are the two safe to mix?

  • How to find out what day something was on the TV (recent past)?

I m trying to remember the date of an important event. I didn t bother to note the date at the time, which I regret now! The only useful marker I can remember is that The Rocky Horror Picture Show was on Film4 that same night. It was probably around 1 month ago. But the Film4 website only gives listings from the 11th April. Is there any other way I could find this out?

  • How to cover up a mark inside a book?

I bought a 2nd hand book from amazon which has a birthday message to a guy named Steve written in the front and I want to cover it up.

It's on the corner of the front endpaper. I was thinking some kind of sticker but I'm not sure what. Any suggestions?

    4 - The Lovers

    5 - The Emperor

    6 - Strength

  • Can you get into college (UK) with this?

Okay, so I really want to do a HNC/HND (level 4 equivalent) at my local college. The entry requirement is 1 A level. What's annoying is that I don't have this.

I DO have 3 A grade AS levels (as well as 13 A/A* grade GCSEs) but I dropped out of school because I hated it to get a job. So I didn't drop out because I was incapable, just the school environment killed me.

I know colleges sometimes bend their entry requirements but I'm wondering if they would possibly do so in this situation?

I hate it so much that I am capable of doing these courses, but I might not be allowed, and that I know no one my own age because everyone at work is way older than me.

  • How much alcohol does it take to get drunk?

Bring your own party & wondering how much you need. I drink fairly regularly (beer & wine at home) but have only gotten drunk once, and it wasn't very drunk at all. That night I had 5 shots, 2 rum & cokes, 2 sex on the beach's, 1 cosmopolitan, 3 beers, a vodka and orange, one of those tiny rum bottles you get at a mini bar and a few random swigs out of some weird alcopop type drink (no idea what it actually was) before going out. This was over about 4-5 hours, before, during and after a meal, and I felt completely fine the next day, my mouth was just dry when I woke up.

I'm 19, female, 5' 6" (of legal age in my country, for any who aren't from here). I want enough to enjoy it but not so much that I'm basically a walking bar carrying it all.

  • How to get out of a date?

I was feeling down about someone and my thought process was basically like, I should take more advantage of my romantic opportunities rather than holding back, just go have fun...

Anyway, long story short, this other guy texted me within two minutes of that thought (seriously, be careful what you wish for) asking me to do something with him sometime and I accepted.

Then a couple of hours later, when I was feeling better, I remembered why I'd been continuously declining his offers for the past three years.

How do I wriggle out of this without hurting anyone's feelings? He never outright said "date" but I'm pretty sure he's planning for us to go alone, and he keeps messaging me about it... someone help me.

I can't even just tell him the truth (I momentarily wanted a rebound but I've changed my mind!) without it being massively offensive.
