  • What Criterion is ICC using to induct players into ICC Hall Of Fame?

Wesley Hall was inducted into ICC Hall of fame, nothing against him but he took 192 wickets at an average of 26. So does it mean that anyone with close to 200 wickets walks into the Hall of Fame? Jason Gillespie has 259 test wickets @ 26. Craig McDermott helped Australia win a World cup and has 291 test Wickets @ 28 and 203 ODI wickets at 24, yet neither one of them in the Hall Of fame.

Even if Gillespie and McDermott don't deserve to be inducted, there is also Allan Donald who took 330 test wickets @ 22 and 272 ODI wickets @21. In spite of that he hasn't been inducted into ICC Hall of Fame but Wesley Hall has been. Does it make any sense?

  • Both the Taylor's on Fire?

Jerome Taylor helped WI square the series against England with a match winning spell.

Then he started the 2nd test vs Australia at Kingston with 6 consecutive maiden overs. At one stage his figures were 6.4- 6- 0-2 and I thought Bapu Nadkarni's long standing record of 22 consecutive maidens was in real danger. He has now taken 5 for 33 despite not getting any help from the support cast.

At the Oval it was Ross Taylor who went berserk and scored a brutal 100 to help NZ post 398/5.

  • What criteria/ formula should be used to judge how good someone is in both forms of the game?

If we want to ascertain how good someone is Test Cricket + ODI Cricket what criteria should we use? Case in point there are some players ( Bell, Cook, Samraweera, Strauss) these guys are/were good test cricketers, but they are pants in ODI cricket. If we are to measure these one trick ponies against players who perform well in both forms of the game ( AB, Amla, Kohli, Smith, Mathews) What formula should we use?

I have this formula test average+ Odi average ÷ 2

Then add some bonus points if a batsman ( not a slogger) has a healthy strike rate in ODI cricket/ test cricket, deduct points for having a bad strike rate in both forms of the game.

Lets look at a few examples Alastair Cook Test average= 46 Odi average= 36 46+36 = 82 ÷ 2 = 41 and then we deduct marks for Cooks low strike rate in both forms of the game. I am subtracting 2 marks. conclusion Cook's final rating as a batsman is 39.

Now lets see how he compares with a real star AB de Villiers. Test average + odi average 53+52 ÷ 2 = 52.5 + he gets bonus points for his healthy strike rate in test cricket and his outstanding strike rate of 99 in ODi cricket. I am adding + 6 points. Conclusion: Tests+ ODIs AB de Vlliers has a rating of 58.5

If this formula i am using is incorrect, what other method should be used to determine greatness? of course we take into account the quality of opposition, length of service and other factors, but how exactly do we judge someone's caliber when we combine both forms of the game?

  • Whatever happened to Holly Ferling?

She played a few matches for Australia and performed reasonably well. If I am not wrong she is Very Tall, Blonde and Good looking. When you talk about all these attributes, Tall, Blonde, Good looking the first sportswoman that comes to your mind is Maria Sharapova. Ferling could have been the Sharapova of cricket. Where is she now.?

  • Can you recall any incidents of players getting seriously injured on a cricket field?

I remember just one such incident In 1999 Steve Waugh and Jason Gillespie ran into each other. The collision resulted in both sustaining serious injuries. Apart from this freak accident, are there any other incidents of Cricket players getting seriously injured while playing? I am only talking about International matches not about first class or list A games.

  • Are there any modem cricketers who rank among the pantheon of all-time greatest sportsmen?

Obviously there was Bradman but I am talking more about the MODERN Cricketers Players.Jordan, Woods, Maradona and Federer are modern SPORTING greats. Ali even though he was past his best come early 70s, but lets not forget that his last boxing match was in 1981. So I think we can still put his as a modern Sporting Great. How do the modern Cricketing greats, compare with these sporting greats from other major sports.

Do you think that Bust Bust Afridi was the most honest cricketer of all time and also a great role model?

He is well renowned for his exemplary behavior and honesty. just look at a few examples

In 2005 in a test match, he was found guilty of trying to deliberately damage the pitch, accepted his crime and was subsequently banned for few games.

In 2010 Pakistan toured Australia, they lost the test series 3-0 lost the only T20 and lost the first 4 ODIS, Afridi then did this in the 5th ODi ,in an attempt to avoid yet another whitewash. However Pakistan still lost the match and the series 5-0

He also hit a spectator with his bat in South Africa in 2007, received yet another ban, that ruled him out of 2007 world cup.

Afridi tried to hit at least one 6 in every match he played, and never gave a damn whether he scored another run before or after that 6.

Do you agree that Afridi is a gentleman who has always played cricket within the spirit of the game? He is also the most honest cricketer of all-time, who never tried to cheat. Afridi always maintained exemplary behavior on and off the field, and is indeed a great role model for all upcoming cricketers? Thoughts
