  • How much does the other side have to disclose about themselves?

Suppose I am in a contract negotiation with adversary "A", who is represented by lawyer "L". Because A has little money, A's friend "F" is paying L's legal fees.

I want to know whether L also represents A, or exclusively represents A.

If I ask L who they represent, do they have to tell me?

If L does not have to answer, but does so without obligation, are they obligated to tell me honestly?

I'm not sure whether such a question would vary from state to state, but in case it does, I'd be most interested in how California law would apply (and only US law would be helpful).

  • Is there a list of differences between the US and UK editions of the His Dark Materials books?

The obvious difference is that the first book was re-titled. But I've read that wording was changed also, supposedly making the books more explicitly critical of authoritarian religious organizations. (And maybe there are simple vocabulary changes too; I don't know.)

The US publisher also published the Harry Potter books. It changed vocabulary, since US kids would know the word "truck" but not its UK synonym "lorry". (Bad example, maybe; I don't know whether such vehicles are mentioned in those books.) They also changed spelling; US spelling favors "color" over "colour", and spells some words with "z" in place of "s". I don't think any content was changed, though.
