and as people were called from where they came from .i have also found references to roman times where people called gateys were the gate keeper of that district as travel was not allowed . i grew up believing i was the only Gatey male left as told to me by my dad .since the internet has made searching easier i have found gatey surname people in canada Scotland usa and more . i have followed name to the 1700 's joseph gatey . i can track when brothers split for some reason gets hard caus common names continue to confuse and dates of birth and death are suspect some times .i know about all thes sites say free then just give you enough to want to waste money on public records .grrrrr i just cannot afford it as well .is a long shot but some one out there in internet land might be interested or have any info . i would love to know more about family as have extensive family tree on my grand mothers second marriage . contact me if u wnt to help me
