Basic probability question?
I took a Stats test today and got this question:
"2 fair, 6-sided dice are rolled. What is the probability of both numbers being the same?"
I assumed this meant "what's the probability of, say, getting a '1' on the first die and a '1' on the second die?" So I did (1/6)^2, but it wasn't one of the answer choices. My professor said she wasn't looking for what I thought she was and to try and come up with a different sample space. What on earth could she be talking about? Any answers appreciated.

2 AnswersMathematics9 years agoWhat do I do about my ear hole being accidentally stretched?
I've had my ear pierced for over 6 years, and I recently got a second lobe hole. I put a stud in both holes, and the second/new hole seems to be doing fine, but when I took the earring out of the first hole through the front, thinking the back had fallen off since I couldn't feel it, the back had actually already been lodged in the hole and it went completely through. It bled a lot, I cleaned it, and I put a new earring in. After several days I noticed it was itching, and when I took the earring out there was a ridiculous amount of pus, old and new. The hole is quite stretched and so red it looks like it's bleeding, but the blood won't scrape off. Can I just leave a normal stud in and hope the hole shrinks back to normal size? Do I have to wait for the hole to close and get it repierced? Should I just say "screw it," and get a plug put in? Please help.
3 AnswersOther - Skin & Body9 years agoCause of my tonsillitis?
I've had a persistent coating on my tongue since a couple weeks into college (so it's been a few months). I scrape it off and it's back in 1-3 days. After I started taking 70mg Vyvanse to pull multiple all-nighters studying (a couple months ago), I got little mouth sores, my tonsils swelled up and pretty much everything above my neck was in pain; taking it always put a nasty taste in my mouth and dried out my mouth and skin. Once it gave me awful bladder pain and a urine stench for days after. The sores and overall pain went away within a couple days but my tonsils stayed huge. I've been resting a lot over winter break but I drank and smoked a bit for 5-6 days in a row (throughout each day). Two days after I stopped, my right tonsil swelled up more and started hurting, and I am having right ear pain and some bladder/kidney pain. Basically, I've been taking pretty awful care of myself. But I want to know whether this sounds more viral or bacterial (if it's possible to tell?), why the infection seemed to work so progressively...and whatever helpful info you have that isn't "don't abuse drugs!" or "go to the doctor!" Thanks.
2 AnswersRespiratory Diseases9 years agoHow do I keep people from monopolizing the conversation?
It's not everyone, but occasionally when people find out that I'm a good listener they really take advantage of it. This one person in particular - I know she likes me and whatnot because she'll occasionally compliment me in between talking about herself, but whenever we're talking about some past-revealing thing she goes on and on about herself and completely ignores what I say about my own experiences. I think she's cool and we have a lot in common, but I'm not going to deal with things being like that. Should I just tell her?
6 AnswersFriends1 decade agoDoes it make you uncomfortable or do you look at a friend differently if you see them all over someone?
"All over" as in "making out with heavily," as you might assume.

3 AnswersCell Phones & Plans1 decade agoWhat will REALLY be the long-term effects of me smoking weed?
The only thing I hate about pot is that it damages the developing brain. How much could my brain be screwed up because I've been smoking since I was 14? (I'm 17 now, and I smoke every day or so.)
11 AnswersOther - Health1 decade agoWhy do I have a headache every day?
I smoke cigarettes and pot. I eat candy. I have a great diet besides that. I drink lots of water. My only exercise is the long walk I go on when I feel like it. I drink diet drinks and coffee occasionally, but I don't think it's enough to give me headaches every day. I am stressed. I wear contacts. What is it?
3 AnswersPain & Pain Management1 decade agoWill UT void my application since I submitted it after midnight?
Most of the reason I missed the midnight deadline today was because of technical difficulties/roadblocks in the application that I was unaware of. It ended up being 12:17am when I submitted it and the college folks have that info. It seems unfair that they would take my $60 and not my application, but I've heard they're rather strict. Please tell me if you have ANY insight on this.
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoAre there any scholarships out there for people who have improved their grades/lives?
I wondered if it would be a scholarship asset to me that I have raised my gpa .8 points from sophomore to the beginning of senior year after I came back from being suspended from my school for having pot. I am not good at math at all but I have improved in it drastically, which shows in my grades and in the fact that I increased my SAT math percentile by 29 percent from the first to the second (and last) time I took the test. I am the newspaper editor and debate president. Are there scholarships out there for this sort of story? Thanks so much.

I guessed not because it doesn't show causal or correlating relationships, but...
2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoDoes the idea of fate depend on its 100% accuracy?
Or is it possible for things to occur either in contrast with or unrelated to the all-powerful plan?
I am speaking in completely theoretical terms...I don't really believe in fate, so don't waste my time telling me how it's not real please.

1 AnswerCell Phones & Plans1 decade agoIs this girl into me?
I always saw this girl around in the hallway and got a huge gay vibe from her, and she has really intense eyes. Now she is in one of my classes and I seriously know she's gay. We keep running into each other in random places we never did before, and she asked if I had a boyfriend today just to see if I liked girls. When I told her I liked girls she grinned and said she could tell before. The only thing is that she has a boyfriend, but she told me that she doesn't like him and just keeps him around because it's comfortable and she likes messing with his head. She also told me that she slept with her female best friend and that she didn't like it but only because it was awkward since they were so close, and that they were drunk. She asked before that if I've ever had a gf, etc. and seemed quiet and a little jealous when I talked about guys. I feel like she is flirting with me but trying to play it cool. She gave me this long, intense hug after we went on a walk and talked about all this stuff. What do you think?
3 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agoDo people exaggerate about how much weed they have to smoke to get high?
Because I will be super stoned if I smoke a j by myself, even, and I've been smoking for 3 years and pretty much every day now. I feel like whenever other people talk about it they say they need to smoke a lot more than that to get stoned. It's reggie (regular, not great) weed so it's not like it's the quality that's keeping my tolerance relatively low. What do you think?
7 AnswersOther - Health1 decade agoIs lots of figurative language too cutesy for a high school column or just right?
I am trying to "dumb down" my writing style for my high school's paper but I still find myself generally having an extended metaphor and then other common instances of figurative language in my writing. I don't know if it complicates things too much or is too cutesy or just fine. What's your take on it?
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoCan you quickly tell me a good order to complete these tasks in?

Take notes on a small part of a Biology AP chapter (due Wednesday)
Revise and type up an essay for English (due Tuesday)
A journalism story I'm not too excited about writing (due Tuesday)
Notes and vocab definitions for Economics (due Tuesday)
A couple assignments for an online BCIS class I need in order to graduate (I have to be done by December and I'm not even half way there)
Thanks!
