  • my mum is an alcoholic? any advice?

I am 25 years old both my parents are alcoholics my mum abstained for 4 years and i was really proud of her we got along better it was great. My parents have been alcoholics since i was 8 years old so you can imagine my childhood wasn't the best but i coped. My mum bought a bottle of wine 2 days ago and drank half on tuesday and 1/2 on wednesday. I visited my mum in my lunch break from work yesterday unaware of what was going on but when i arrived i could tell something was wrong. I first assumed she was having a breakdown as she has mental health problems. She then confessed she was drunk I was so angry at her i couldn't speak to her and could hardly look at her so i left. I don't know how to feel or what to do I'm just so angry and upset. I just keep thinking it's my fault because I have been spending alot of time with my dad he has had a spinal injury is now disabled.

I have no idea what to do i know i can't stop her drinking but i can feel myself bottling this up as i have 2 veterinary nursing exams coming up soon and i don't have time to be distracted. I have spoke to my boyfriend about it and he was really good and was there for me.

I'm just so angry because i have to be responsible for my parents all the time there is not a point of my childhood i can remember where i felt like a child

    any advice???

  • I'm thinking of getting another dog?

I already have a 13 year old crossbreed who is lovely, however i am looking for a dog to train for obedience and agility. I used to do obedience with my 13 year old, obviously when he was much younger, and me and my dog got a lot out of it and really enjoyed it. I am looking for a dog under 5years that will get on with my other dog well. We have found through looking after other people's dogs that a younger dog really livened up my older dog an also encouraged him to eat more readily and he seemed happier in himself with the other dog. I was considering adopting from Birmingham dogs home as i work as a veterinary nurse and that is where our local stray dogs get sent. what i wanted to ask (sorry for the essay) was is this a good idea? any other suggestions for where to adopt a dog? any tips about adopting, settling them in etc. I ask because it has been 13 years since i last adopted a dog just wanted some reminders really :)

  • does any one have any advice on caring for a disabled person?

my dad has suffered a spinal injury, he has 2 ruptured discs and the vertebrae are squeezing his spinal cord causing him to have little control or mobility in his limbs. He lives alone i visit him 2-3 times a day to cook clean and do other things at the minute he cant do much for himself. he has a bucket down stairs that he goes to the bathroom in as his toilet is upstairs and i have brought his bed down stairs for him. I have contacted social services for help caring for him they are going to get back to me in the week. Does anyone have advice is there any thing else i can do to make his living arrangements better. Is there any equipment i can purchase/rent to help him. I'm a veterinary nurse and i love my dad dearly but i cannot cope very well with human urine or feaces i do it but it takes me a long time to pull my self together and deal with it. Any tips/advice?????

  • how do i help an unconfident driver?

I have reccently added my boyfriend to my insurance as he said he would like to drive again. He passed his test when he was 17 and is now 24. he hasn't driven a car since he was 18 and has been in a few accidents with his dad driving. He is really nervous about driving when i have tried to encourage him to have a go in my car he gets defensive and says that i'm nagging him. But everytime i have asked him if he would like to drive he says no and today he told me to stop pushing him to drive because he thinks it will make him not want to? But i think that if i never mention it again he will never drive. He is also an extremely nervous passenger, despite the fact that im quite a good safe little driver (i only got 1 minor on my driving test). I don't know how to help him I've suggested getting some refresher lessons with his old instructor to which he said he will but has been dragging his feet about it and today said it probably wont help because he will drive perfectly with the instructor but go back to being a nervous wreck when he is alone again. I don't know how to help him any suggestions???

  • why cant i be normal?

i have just got home from a halloween partyi left at half eleven because people were starting to comment on my awkwardness. The problem is i can't talk to people or be myself around people if i dont know them very well and they are in large groups. I just go quiet and only speak to people if they speak to me which freaks them out but i genuinly cannot speak its like my brain is saying no one wants to hear what you have got to say. I am fine around people i have known for a long time and if i talk to a person on a one to one basis. How can i stop doing this ????

  • my mums mental health problems are affecting my health an career?

I know it's not my mums fault and i don't blame her in any way she has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and psychosis a month ago she was hospitalised at a mental health facility as she completely disconnected with reality she has now recovered and is taking her medication

before she was hospitalised she had been ill for 6 months plus and we had a really hard time getting her any help although the crisis team were visiting her and were very helpful her husband refused to hospitalise her even though she was physically harming him and me as well nothing major just hitting and scratching

before they hospitalised her, her husband left the house as he had enough with her behaviour. so she was alone at night so i went to take care of her but she wouldn't let me in the house or her sister so we called an ambulance and had her sectioned i feel badly about it but if we hadn't she wouldn't have got the help she so desperately needed i was angry that her husband just ran away and left me to pick up the pieces

as i result i started struggling at work/ college and having uncomfortable heart palpation's yesterday when i visited her she was showing signs of going down hill again (odd behaviour) .How can i ensure that i get help for her quickly without having to section her again if she worsens. I know it is selfish but i am worried about my own health im currently on beta blockers and also i have a royal college exam at the end of october for vet nursing and i really need to pass it

sorry for all the writing does any one have any advise for me on how to get her help and how to deal with her husband?

  • question for experienced rat owners?

I currently have 1 female rat I aquired her from an old collegue who had cared for her whilst she was pregnent before that i believe she was purchased from a pet shop. she is an extremely shy rat she will allow me to stoke her inside the cage but if i attempt to pick her up and handle her she becomes stressed and starts open mouth breathing I work in a veterinary practice as a student nurse and I have seen this before in many small rodents and sometime unfortunatly they often die under this stress so upon seeing this with my own rat i didn't like to push my luck so i now only stroke her inside the cage which she doesn't seem to mind she does sometimes nip at my fingers but it never breaks the skin or hurts. Over the past year i have had her i have been trying to find another rat that i can introduce her to so she can have some company as i know they are very social creatures and need to be with other rats so far she doesn't seem to get on with any of the rats i have tried her with when they meet they are in different cages and greet each other through the bars with my supervision but she only seems to act aggressively this is probably due to the fact that her cage is her territory but given her current temperament i cannot think of any other way. i have asked my local pet shops for advise but they simply say they do not reccomend introducting two rats that are not from the same litter. has anyone on here successfully introduced two rats that are not related if so whats the best way to go about it with a rat that is difficult to handle? ive heard they must meet in a neutral territory and both be doused with a similar scent like lemon juice? is this right other than stroking her she also has very good environmental enrichment which i change around for her once a week any other suggestions?

  • why is my dads girlfriend doing this?

my dads girlfriend moved in with us 3 years ago since moving in she has been very cold towards me she is a quiet person in herself and so am i. i always thought she was a nice person just a little quiet but when she moved in it feels like she is trying to drive me out of the house i would gladly move out but unfortunatly i am training to be a vet nurse and do not earn enough money to get a morgage or rent. she doesnt let us put the heating on and always opens all the windows in the house so its freezing even though i am giving them more than enough rent money(250) to pay the gas bill i have had to resort to getting a fan heater for my room i feel guilty as it is an extra expense to have that running than to just keep the heating on she also has a problem with cleaning she does it now and then but i mostly do all the cleaning which is tiring with working 40-50 hrs weeks and college as well. when i do the cleaning i have heard her whilst im in my room chattering to herself about what a rubbish job ive done right outside my room so i can hear i clean as part of my job so i would think im quite good at it so dont understand her problem she also mutters nasty comments about me whilst outside my room i mostly stay in my room out of the way its just easier and i feel bad about that as well as my dad misses my company and wishes that we could all sit downstairs together she has reccently bought her own house 4 months ago but as yet has not moved into it?? dont understand why i just want her to leave me alone i dont understand why she is doing this has anyone else experienced this themselves or can any one offer any advise?

  • im worried my dad and his gf are trying to make money off me?

i live with my dad and his gf. My friend also rents a room off my dad, i pay 200 pounds a month, which i offered to pay because he was unemployed and struggling with the bills. My friend moving in i suggested to him to help with money. He agreed he charges her 60 pound a week so about 240 pounds a month. Last night my dads girlfriend's daughter came round looked at my dad's gas bill which was 300 pound for 6 months, so roughly we are spending 50 pounds a month on heating, our house has fairly big rooms its 3 bedrooms. Since my dads gf moved in i have had problems with her about the heating as she is constantly turning it off. Currently through lots of arguing the house temerature is usually between 14-18 degrees celcius i am still cold but at 18 degrees it is just about bearably comfortable. Any way back to the point her daughter looked at the bill and said this is far too much money. I think you should turn the heating off completely and walk around in coats and hot water bottles. My problem with this is mine and my friends rent money is more than enough to pay for the gas bill. So if they are trying to pay less what will they be spending our money on and my second point, it is already fairly cold in the house i often have to use a hot water bottle anyway, how will i cope if we cant have the heating on. I know that they are going on holiday to cyprus for 2 weeks in a month to go to her other daughter wedding. I am also concerned that they are sqandering our money to use for this purpose. My dad is still unemployed and his gf is retired, she has a cleaning job but only does that one day a week. Me and my friend are the main source of income for the household.

im sorry for the long winded question but i will apreciate your opinions please thank you :)

  • why do people do this on yahoo answers?

i dont understand why people when answering questions that you ask are so patronising and speak to you as if you know nothing and assume you know nothing of what you are speaking about when you are simply asking for help and instead of simply helping they feel that they must degrade you at the same time if your not going to help why bother? and also when you answer a question even if u have researched it or know alot about it from personal experience they thumbs down your answer and degrade your intellegence with their answer they simply cannot try to help they have to make others appear inferior and unintelligent why??? what do other people think?
