  • Job Offer- Unfair Expectations?

I had a job interview yesterday. It was a second round interview, the first being a simple one on one chat about myself and about the business. The second was a full day getting to know the company with two other potential employees. However when arriving on this second job interview, I was then told that if successful, a third and final interview would take place THAT evening. I thought this a bit odd but I kept that to myself. So spent the day following one of the directors around. at about 5pm we had a coffee break at which he said IF I get accepted to go to the final interview this evening, how soon after would I be able to start work as they had to fill the position as soon as possible. I told him that I would like 24 hours to work out the logistics and consider the offer, but if I accept I would be willing to begin work on Monday (which I didn't think was unreasonable). He replied that I would need to make my decision on whether or not to take the job today. He put a lot of pressure on me, saying that if I needed time to think, then I am clearly not keen on the job, and that seeing as I am currently unemployed, what have I got to lose.

This really upset me- a) I don't like being pressured into making a decision, b) I had only been told there was to be a third interview that morning and c) I would need to go home and work out the logistics of travel etc as he had only just told me earlier that day what my hours would be. So I had a think about this then apologised for wasting his time, but I felt that I wasn't the right person for the job.

Does anyone else think this situation was wrong, or is it just me?

  • 1 year old king snake refusing food?

My 1yr old king snake has been off his food for about a month. It started just after he shed. The brille came off with the rest of the skin. He has a couple of rough scales- I don't know if that would affect him. He is in a viv heated with a heat mat with a graduated temperature reaching about 26 degrees. He also has two hides- one at the warm end and one at the cold end and a dish of water available at all times.

He is fed thawed fluffs and pre-shedding has had no trouble with feeding.

Is there anything I can do to entice him to feed and how long should I let him fast before taking him to a vet?

  • Tortoise Diet and General Care?

I am pet sitting for a lady who has a large number of animals including a tortoise. I THINK she is an African Spurred tortoise. She was rescued from a home that no longer wanted her, taken to the RSPCA and now lives here.

I have no personal experience of keeping tortoises but have been going along with what the lady has told me to do.

I am feeding her lettuce and some chopped cucumber and she lives in the garden in a very large pen with access to plenty of grass etc. She also has a house to go in at night.

However there is no water bowl in sight, no source of extra calcium that I can see and also I have noticed her nails are growing incredibly long.

I was just wondering if any experienced tortoise owners could tell me whether their nails need clipping and also whether there is anything extra that needs to be done, and if there is, I can relay this to the owner when she comes back from holiday.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Elderly Male Cat Advice?

    Little bit of background detail:

I have a 14 year old male cat called Monty. I am 22 and am living away from home at university. My parents care for Monty while I am away as I do not feel it is fair on him to move him into a student home.

My parents care for him well however I feel that they tend to avoid vet visits (my dad is very anti them due to the amount of money he has to pay for treatment), So far Monty has had little need to visit the vets other than a bad paw and a skin irritation he gets in the summer months, he has been a very healthy and happy cat.

Recently however he has lost a dramatic amount of weight. I cannot say whether it was a sudden change or if it has happened over a long period of time as I am not often home and so any physical changes seem over exaggerated to me.

He did visit the vets a few months back who noticed the weight loss but put it down to old age.

What I would like to know is what I need to look out for and ways I can tell to see whether the weight loss is due to old age or something else. He eats well, drinks well, is still active (when the weather is nice) and gets plenty of exercise. He eats a combination of dry cat food and tinned wet food.

If any cat savvy people could just give me some information on what to look out for and how better to care for him in his old age I would be very grateful.

  • Hypothetical Rat Breeding?

I do not intend to breed rats, I have two girl ratties and have no intention (and not enough money) to get any more. But I was just wondering from reading a previous question, if I was planning on becoming a breeder, how would I go about getting rats with a known genetic history if breeders do not allow their litters to go to others wanting to breed? Obviously you could start with pet shop rats but you wouldn't know the medical history or temperament...

  • Pituitary and Mammary Tumors in Rats - Rat Owners Only Please!?

My 26 month old female rat was diagnosed with a small mammary tumor about 4 months ago. I discussed with the vet about the possibility of having it removed, and she warned me against it due to her age and also her on-going respiratory problems.

Now it is rather large- golf ball ish size, and although it is not bothering her, it has started affecting her mobility. She can still run and walk around but has to lift her back leg up a bit higher to stop the lump from hitting the ground.

As well as that, about a month ago I took her back to the vet as she had lost weight and had problems eating. The vet and I agreed the symptoms were most likely caused by a pituitary tumor.

She is now on steroids and I am feeding her plenty of baby food and soft food supplements to help her keep the weight on.

She is still active, still playful, still eating and drinking (although struggles with the lab blocks now).

Both the vet and I are monitoring her quality of life, and ultimately if I feel it is not what it should be, I will make the decision to end her suffering.

I just wanted to hear other rat owner’s experiences with either pituitary tumors or mammary tumors. If it's not too painful to talk about, what happened and when did you decided when the time was right to put them to sleep as the one thing I am worried about is knowing when to make that call...

    Thanks

  • How Much Would A Second Hand PS3 Sell For?

I am thinking about buying a phone through carohonewarehouse and getting their free PS3 deal then selling the PS3.

Just wondering how much you think one would go for. I guess it would have to be labelled 'second hand' even though it hasn't been used....

    Thanks :)

  • Falling Out Of Love With University?

I'm really not enjoying my course anymore. It's not just the course but the place and the people and the more I think about it, the more I believe that Uni is not the place it once was. Degrees are not as highly thought of as they used to be, and many of my graduate friends are struggling to find jobs just as much as friends who never went on to higher education. The thoughts 'this is pointless' and 'I'm wasting three years of my life' are running through my head more and more these last few months however I know I would regret leaving, I'd hate to leave something half finished and I feel like I would be letting my family down. But I'm getting more and more depressed being there.

I just wanted to hear some opinions. I have another year and a half of Uni left and I'm 21. Anyone else in the same boat or have any advice?

    Thanks

  • Black Nipples on Elderly Male Cat?

    Hi,

My cat, now 13 years old has black nipples which look dry and crusted. I checked them yesterday and one looked as if it was about to fall off.

He has had these for years and is perfectly healthy, so I am not really worried that it is affecting his health, I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

    Thanks

  • Biting Guinea Pig Help?

I'm going to be pet sitting two guinea pigs for a friend over christmas.

I've looked after them before, and I know what I'm doing, I've had rodents most of my life and did animal husbandry (including how to look after guinea pigs) as part of my degree. Only problem is, one of the guineas bites a lot. It could be because I'm pretty much a stranger to them, or if it's because they don't get much handling time- My friend keeps them for her grand children that come over every other weekend, so I don't know how much time they spend with their pets.

(They are well looked after, get lots of floor time in a run outside, so I don't think they're being badly treated. And I'm only guessing about how much attention they get, so I can't make any judgment on them)

Anyway, my question is, can you give me some ideas on how to prevent her biting me? I just feel a bit sorry for her and want to give her a bit of attention while they're away.

    Thanks :)
