How do I tell my dad I want his old DSLR?

    Favourite answer:

My first question is: why do you want it in the first place?  Do you want it because you think it's cool, and you want to play with it?  Do you have a genuine interest in learning photography?

If you just want fool around with it, then just ask him.  If he says no again, then it's no big deal.  Like you said, it's quite obsolete anyway, right?  More on that later.

If you have a genuine interest in photography, then you have a much stronger reason for wanting to use your dad's camera.  If you show your father that you are taking this hobby seriously, and that the phone isn't good enough for what you need, then it's likely that your dad will say yes providing that over the past 4 years you've matured enough and proven yourself to be trustworthy.  Four years when you're in your 40s isn't all that much, but when you compare an 16-year-old to when they were just 12, then that's huge!

If you have a genuine interest in photography, and you're taking this hobby seriously by working on your computer editing images, printing out your photos and framing them, etc..., I think your dad will probably notice and may offer you the camera without you even having to ask.

What are you doing for your photos now? I assume you're using your phone which is quite limiting compared to the D90.  In fact, there are many types of photos that the D90 can do far better than your phone and many your phone simply cannot do at all.  If the phone, or whatever camera you're currently using, is holding you back (e.g. no manual settings, no interchangeable lens, no continuous focusing, etc...) explain that to your father.

Of course, if all you want to do is try the camera out because it looks cool and stuff, then just ask.  If he says no, then live with it.  You'll eventually be old enough to afford a great camera in the very near future anyway.

The D90 is not obsolete by any stretch of the imagination.  If you think it takes worse photos than a modern phone, I would encourage you to check out these photos on 500px.com that were taken with a D90: https://500px.com/search?q=D90&type=photos  There's not a phone on the planet that can compare to the capabilities and image quality of even an obsolete camera like the D90.

Replace dried out grease in a vintage Elgeet 13mm f/1.5?

I got an amazing deal on a “for repair” Elgeet 13mm f/1.5. The problem with this lens is that the focusing mechanism is nearly frozen. Aperture works great.

I was wondering if anyone had a diagram or instructions on how to open this lens and replace the old grease?

Also, what are things that I need to be aware of when I open a lens? I have never done this before.

Lastly, what kind of replacement grease should I use?

    Thanks!

Can I see the photos of my camera again without memory card?

When I was little my gran had a camera she loved to use to take photos on and I loved taking pictures on it too and for my birthday one year my gran bought me my very own camera. I’m pretty sure it’s a Nixon Coolpix a10 and I found it again recently but there isn’t an memory card in the slot.

I want to see the photos I took when I was little but I don’t know if I’ll be able to because of the missing memory card. If I get a new memory card will I be able to see the pictures and videos again?

I’m holding on with a sliver of hope that I can see these pictures again any answers are helpful, thank you in advance.

What's the best vlogging and video camera for 2021?

What camera would you consider to be the best for vlogging (and occasionally taking pictures) that does not have a short 30 minute recording limit? Something like a mirrorless camera that can shoot 4K or close to it. I have heard that the Sony a6400 is good but has a few downsides, Canon cameras are great too but a short recording limit is a deal breaker. Good video & picture cameras in the $1000-$2000 price range would be great

Opened the back of my film camera have I ruined film?

    Olympus superzoom 800s

    Kodak portra 400 35mm film

My film camera automatically winds up film when you feed it into the camera and the back is shut (see picture) however this time I only partially inserted it so I when I turned on my camera it said “1” as if I was on my first exposure and then as I moved my camera it turned to the empty symbol, so naturally I opened the back and fed it in a bit more so it would fully load it, and it worked. However now I’m a bit worried the roll will be ruined - there was no sign the camera had loaded it in from what I could see from the film but I’m confused as to why it would say one then...

What's the best camera mode for turtle pics?

    Favourite answer:

People who think turtles are slow definitely haven't encountered one yet personally or are just thinking about those large tortoises they see on TV. Turtles are fast, especially in water. My son even had one that cartwheeled its way to freedom.

    Best camera mode? Manual.

What is the best budget friendly camera for shooting sports? ?

I currently have an older model cannon EOS Rebel SL1 camera. The main lense I use is the 75-300 mm. Out of the lenses I have that one seems to get the best pictures. I’m looking for a new camera as my current one just isn’t keeping up with what I need it to do. No matter the lense or setting I can’t get the crisp pictures I’m wanting. I always have to do a ton of editing to get it remotely close to what I want. It also lags really bad so I end up missing out on some amazing shots.  I can’t even take pictures at night because the quality is ten times worse without natural lighting. I would prefer to stay with the cannon brand so I can still use the lenses that I already have. I mainly shoot pictures of equestrians, sports, and children. I do some stand still but rarely so I’m looking for a good sports camera. I have maxed out this cameras potential and am looking for something that gives me a bit more room to play without breaking the bank. I attached a raw image that I’ve taken with this camera and lense to show what I mean by the quality. I understand editing can fix a lot of those issues but it won’t fix the lag problem. TIA for any camera recommendations!
