Do Americans have a council tax system like in the UK where you have to pay for rubbish collections and things like street lighting?

    Favourite answer:

Yes we have to pay for all these things (nothing is free).   But how we pay for it and who we pay varies by location.

Where I live trash collection is a service provided by a private business.   I can pay for it if I want curbside trash/recycling/compost or I can opt out and deal with my trash on my own.   In the large urban city 15 miles away, paying the city for garbage/recycling/compost is a requirement.  You do get your choice of small, medium, large though.

Property tax funds a lot of the local city/county services like street lights (and schools, parks, police, etc.).  Property tax is paid by people who own property.   Tenants indirectly pay property tax because it's built into what landlords charge for rent.

A buyer on eBay arranged own courier and he didn’t receive the item, he opened a paypal claim and has gotten a full refund (see details)?

He arranged own courier And the item didn’t arrive and now claimed a refund from paypal, he didn’t have insurance so he couldn’t claim any refund from the courier, and now I’m at loss of this.

Can I go to a small claim count to claim the money back from him even though Paypal chose in his favour?

The council are asking me to repay a housing benefit overpayment even though I was not at the property ?

    Advice please.

The council mistakenly overpaid the organisation (safe house) I was living in even after I had left the accommodation. By the time the safe house staff informed the council of my move the council had already made a payment to the housing organisation. The staff within this safe house were acting as liaisors between I (the tenant) and the council, and those staff had informed the council of my move a little too late.

After landing a job I noticed my wage was being deducted as they was taking the overpayment from my wages, even though the organisation received that payment.

Currently, I am unemployed and claiming benefits, but I've received a request to pay the remaining amount.

I recieved an email from the council saying this:

"As the overpayment was due to a change in your income, your landlord could not have reasonably have been expected to have been aware of this, therefore the overpaid amount is recoverable from yourself."

My "landlord" is an organisation that provides supporting living and emergency accommodation for those who need it, they helped me find a job and were fully aware of my income and that I had moved out.

    What are my rights?

Do I have to pay even though I was not in the property at the time of the overpayment?

Do I have to pay even though I was not in receipt of the overpayment?

    How can this be resolved?

Is there something I need to declare? Please help. Thanks

British welfare queen Heather Frost says being a mom is a full time job. Thoughts?

THE jobless mum-of-11 set to move into a new £400,000 council home yesterday hit back at critics, saying: “I’m not living in luxury like people think I am – I only wish.”

Heather Frost, 37, has faced a backlash since it was revealed she would take her huge brood and a menagerie of 11 pets to the custom-made eco-friendly home in June. The discovery that her teenage daughter keeps a pony in a paddock only served to spark more fury. But Heather insists she does everything possible NOT to be a burden on the State. She first became pregnant at 14 and has children by three different men. Her youngest is three and the oldest is 22.The red-haired mum said: “I’ve been on benefits for six or seven years but I’m not a scrounger. Being a mum is a full-time job.“It’s hard and it’s hectic but you learn to cope. I plod along but now my life is being trashed – and it’s gone too far.“A mass murderer wouldn’t get as much attention as I’m getting."One bloke said on Facebook he wanted to put all my kids in a house and gas them. It’s just sickening.”Heather and her nine youngest – eight girls and a boy aged three. five, seven, nine, 10, 12,13, 15 and 16 – currently live rent-free in two council houses knocked into one.

Tax Bracket - best to earn less than next bracket?

Personal Allowance Up to £12,500 0 percent

    Basic rate £12,501 to £50,000 20 percent

    Higher rate £50,001 to £150,000 40 percent

Additional rate over £150,000 45 percent

Example. Would it make sense to earn £49k rather than £50k because a person on £49k would earn more after tax than being on £50k

Do I have to pay my employer the full amount after an overpayment? ?

For example, if my employer over pays me by £200 and I only see £100 of the £200 after tax, do I have to pay the full £200? Do I have to pay the extra £100 I haven’t seen and pay for their mistake?

    Opinions?

My dad seems to think this isnt right. I earn 225 a week (training) and my partner earns 18 grand a year roughly depending on commission and I pay half for everything and pay 63 a week for rent. My dad thinks this is wrong because he earns more and keeps asking me about it. I moved in with him eight months ago. Any opinions? My sister moved in with her partner not long ago and she only pays the food bill.

Will I get taxed if I only worked for 7 days ? Uk only?

So I started my new job and worked for 7 days before deciding to quit. In the UK you get taxed if you earn over £12,500. As I have only worked for 7 days I am due to receive £420 on my pay day which is the 24th of August. Will I still get taxed ?

Should it be wrong to tax the dead?

    Favourite answer:

Complicated issue.  On the one hand it is fundamentally unfair to tax inheritance as tax was already paid on this money when it was earned.  Even if it is a house, after tax money went into paying the deposit and mortgage.

On the other hand, if there is no inheritance tax, wealth becomes gradually more and more concentrated in the hands of the few.  That increases the division between rich and poor.  That started during the industrial revolution and did not end until WW1.

There is also a valid argument for each generation to have a level playing field.  Not really right that some should get hand-outs from their parents that they did not earn and do not deserve.

Do you think it's too early for schools etc to reopen?

    Favourite answer:

Re opening at all is stupid let alone schools. You cannot social distance the way the government demand A N Y W H E R E. The whole things is full of lies and a ******* disaster from the get go. Schools should not be reopening to any year groups until October 2020 at the earliest resuming Year 10 starting GCSE's and Year 5's. That's how it should have been. Instead, schools are going back, where June is an absolute piss up for schools as it is anyway, they want kids to mix, they think young children ages 4-12 will have an understanding to not roll over each other -- never mind keep 2 metres a way for each other. The government should be answering for their hypocrisy, lies, and public deception. But because they're the people in control of this world, there is zero hope to recover this situation for the next decade at a very minimum.

I'm an American citizen with income of 70,000 pounds. My employer has withheld tax and pension. Can I argue against the withholding? I'm a US citizen and do not plan on living here after September.

What are the tax forms called in the UK?

In the US, to file a personal income tax return, we do a 1040.

Corporate income tax return = Form 1120

To show wages, employer sends a W2.

To show interest and dividends, the banks send a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV.

    The basics.

I know about Canadians forms because I deal with Canadians a lot in my career.

I'm curious to know what forms the people of England file in the different situations I described above.

Also, does the majority of tax money get disbursed to the Queen?
