how do we as a society go about making marijuana legal?

I am strongly for the idea of marijuana being legal. but still controlled. How do we as a society go about changing the laws to make it legal. Also how can it be legal in Colorado but not everywere else in the US? What do we need to do to change things? Alcohol kills people every day. Weed does not. I think that alcohol should be the illegal one...

I know that i will get negitive responces to this one and if you are against this read this...

I think a lot of it being legal depends on the tobacco companies. It's simply competition for them if weed is sold legally. And since they have so much lobbying power it would be hard.

But I somewhat agree with you on this one. People will smoke weed regardless if it's legal or not, so why not take control of it and legalize it and make them pay for it and tax it?

it's legal like that in OR too. I hate watchin COPS and ya think someones goin down for some heroin the way their actin and then u see the stupid pig pull a dime bag outta the poor fellow p0thead's pocket. it's BULL$HIT. but so is this entire gov't. The only way to get our point across that we think weed needs to be legalized is to organize a million p0thead march just the million MAN march. that would be awesome. if you are interested in organizing that with me, contact me. i'm a stay at home mom now and have NOTHING else to do!!! i know a $hitload of p0thead's and with the internet we can make it happen. too bad April 20th has come and gone b/c that woulda been the perfect day! I believe that a million p0thead march would totally draw some attention, good and bad, im sure.

the statement that marijuana is not harmful is still open to debate. many studies show that heavy use the same as heavy use of alcohol is detrimental to health. in terms of the difference between the two i agree that both should be legal or illegal.hemp as a product has huge potential. But if the stone-rs would stay out of the debate hemp would have a better chance. the facts are that both sides of this argument cancel each other out.And i believe it would need to be governed by the same laws as alcohol in terms of driving under the influence and age restrictions.one of the main arguments is that cannabis at the moment is often a stepping stone to harder drugs this is of great concern to many people and a reason not to legalize. as for all the great uses for hemp its all true but the argument for hemp and the argument for cannabis are in fact completely separate issues.

Weed is legal in Denver on the city level, that means that city police won't do anything about it, but the feds will still bust you if they catch you. As for getting it legalized nationally, a bill needs to be introduced and then pass with a vote. Canada will probably do this soon. And yes, you can smoke just a little weed and not be baked. Just take one hit, and you won't be baked. However, this is pointless, just like drinking one beer and not feeling anything. People drink to feel it, and people smoke to feel it, its all the same.

The first thing is to decriminalize the use of marijuana. Make personal use a non-indictable offence. De-criminalizing use of marijuana does not make it legal, but it is an important first step towards greater societal acceptance and understanding.

This is similar to when alcohol prohibition disappeared and governments introduced regimes that controlled alochol and restricted its use and sale (i.e. age restrictions, sold through governemtn stores, can't drink openly in public places, licensing of restaurants and bars, etc).

Get the Feds to actually look at all weed studies instead of just the negative influenced ones Also to Actually put in the effort to and or funding to do some real research on weed in this country. # 2 Support organizations such as NORML and Drug war Chronicles

The only way it will be legal is if you get all the opponents and anti-drug people out of the way. Either by changing their minds (not likely) or by killing them all off (impossible, there are too many). So it appears that marijuana will be the forbidden plant for the rest of civilization.

i actually wrote my final paper last year on the legalization of drugs. theres SO many good benefits than bad, but until more than 2/3 of the population does the research, theres NO WAY DRUGS ARE GOING TO EVER BE LEGALIZED. as much as every stoner out there wants them to be

aceman u can smoke and not be baked....and there are certain places where the whole city smokes and no one ever gets busted cuz the cops do it more than the citizens

Maybe if you weren't high, you would have paid attention that day in civics class when they discussed how to get an idea into a law.

Try watching School House Rock "I'm Just A Bill".

Contact your senator, or lobby in your state's capital.

Petitions are highly effective with enough signatures.

To say that it does nothing negative is an absolute lie.

I wouldn't believe the site, since many of the effects of the drug remains unknown.
