difference between prom and cocktail dress?

Prom is fancy and cinderella like...fluffy and all that.

a cocktail dress is more scandelous (like something black and lacy). a prom dress is usually a long dress and can be any color. it has to be kinda appropriate though to wear at a school dance.

prom dresses make the statement as "check me out! yeah!" and a cocktail dress just says "i am simple and elegant" just remember the saying..."purfect little black dress" that can be ur standard cocktail dress...and its purrrfect already!
