They will start taste testing mama's food after about 5 weeks. They will be ready to leave for new homes when they are 8 weeks, and they don't need anymore milk after that.
Good Luck
Have mama spayed. If you can't pay, call Animal Control or the SPCA, they have programs to help.

From experience about 5- 6wks kittens will take milk from a saucer. About 7- 8 wks solids ie: cat biscuits and "soft" meat. But some kittens mature earlier than others.

About a month and a half. Trust me. Once they start teething (They'll chew on EVERYTHING!) offer them soft canned food. Once their teeth begin to develop fully, mix the soft food with the harder food (Use kitten chow. They can chew it and digest it easier) and gradually reduce the amount of soft food until they're fully on the kitten chow.
DO NOT IMMEDIATELY CHANGE FROM SOFT MOIST FOOD TO HARD DRY CAT CEREAL.
This can shock their system. I'm currently nursing a kitten back to life who is suffering from a shocked system.

Well Hon,
They will be about 5 weeks old when they will try to 'venture' to taste mom's food, then is the time, to introduce them to soft food, when they are about 7 -8 weeks try to start to mix the dry food into the soft food, and they will be ready to go to good new homes about 8 weeks old....

a little before they stop drinking their moms milk, it should be about 2 to 3 months
