    Hi Mary

I live in Belfast and i think your best bet is to ring the local pet rescue centre and ask if they have any brought in. If not then ask them to put you in touch with a legal breeder so you know what you are buying. Please don't go to them puppy farms

Your friend has surely lost their mind. You cannot tell if ANY dog is purebred by manhandling them. That's just stupid. There are tests available to determine a dog's background and breed, however I am not sure if they have a St. Bernard's profile available to do a proper test on your dog. The biggest mistake you made was to rush out and buy a without regard to research of the breed and what they SHOULD look like, not what you THINK they should look like. It's very probable that your dog is 100% St. Bernard, but a poorly bred dog. St. Bernards vary a lot in their markings and coat type. I always thought that St. Bernards were short coated, brown and white dogs growing up. Since then, I've seen all kinds of variations, some strange and bizarre, despite the dog being purebred. Your biggest concern now should not be coat color - you have purchased him and he's yours. Be good to him, raise him right (train him!) and start praying that you have not obtained a dog that will have a short life due to genetic defects or serious temperament defects. St. Bernards are giants and don't have long lives anyway, so enjoy him while you can. Read below about coat color from the AKC: Color White with red or red with white, the red in its various shades; brindle patches with white markings. The colors red and brown-yellow are of entirely equal value. Necessary markings are: white chest, feet and tip of tail, noseband, collar or spot on the nape; the latter and blaze are very desirable. Never of one color or without white. Faulty are all other colors, except the favorite dark shadings on the head (mask) and ears. One distinguishes between mantle dogs and splash-coated dogs.

    HELLO...

Im from London so not sure where in Ireland.

I would suggest looking through the Loot (I think u have the Loot in Ireland). I have brought 2 dogs from there and had great fun visiting all the different farms and pet shops looking for the right dog for me.

If for some reason you can't get the Loot in Ireland try visiting or calling ur local pet shop. They can give you advice on where you can buy one from and the best place to go.

    GOOD LUCK...

Oh and if u get a girl can I suggest u call her SKI.

If its a boy i would reckomend Crumpet or Bailey.

Try contacting the Kennel Club for a list of breeders in Ireland that currently have puppies.
