As far as the law of England and Wales is concerned, while a case is listed in an adult court, then the contents of the list fall within the public domain. It is publicly displayed in the court foyer. It is always possible to phone the court concerned and ask the listing officer for details. Once the case has been finally dealt with, however, court officials are not allowed under the terms of the Data Protection legislation to give details to any member of the public unless he or she requests those details in writing with supporting evidence that they have a genuine interest (that means, an involvement with the surrounding circumstances, not mere curiosity) in knowing those details. For example, a victim of an assault or the insurers of someone convicted of careless driving would be able to establish such an interest. It is then permissible for a court official to send an extract from the court register giving details of the name of the person, the offence with which that person was charged, the date of the offence and the outcome of the hearing.

Websites such as Westlaw can provide information for pretty much all concluded cases, but they require paid membership and are very expensive to use.

Perhaps you could buy a casebook for the particular area of law you are interested in (e.g. Criminal, Tort, etc). They will probably give you a general summary of the most significant cases and will be easily available from most large bookstores!

Mark the information you gave is vague. more info would be required to help you such as when the person was arrested and how long have they been incarcerated. If they are only in county jail you should be able to call the sheriffs department if they are in a prison you should be able to contact that states department of corrections. Hope this helps.

Search for the docket of the county the case is being heard in. For example - search for "name county docket". Once on the docket search for that person's name.
