Will the execution of Saddam Hussein further destabilise the situation in Iraq?

It is certain that his execution will cause unrest. I think the real question is that is it worth it in the long term to cause this destablisation?

Saddam Hussein is an evil man who deserves to die...but if we are honest, he is hardly the only one.

The notion of going after a country in this manner, and on the basis that it is ruled by such an evil man, may well come back to haunt the perpetrators of these acts.

I would feel more confident if I really could believe this really IS the will of the Iraqi people. It seems to me that the will of the people is not exactly top of the priority list that the US and UK governments are abiding by.

If they execute Saddam whether privately or publicly, I think the whole country will erupt into civil war. This I think is what the various groups are waiting for. I also think that countries like Iran and Syria will become embroiled as well.

I feel that there will be a total destabilisation in the whole area and that the British and the American troops will end up taking a hammering.

Now Saddam has been hanged, I am sure the situation will get worse in the short term. In the long term, who knows, we can only hope and prey that not to many innocent people are murdered by the maniacs before a lasting solution is found. In my view this can only happen if the Arab countries and Israel sit down and make a lasting peace plan.

He did not ask us for our opinion when he killed innocent people and that is why people should not feel sorry for him. He's an evil monster.

I do feel sorry for the innocent people who lost their lives because someone we all know, wanted to be in control of the worlds oil.

I cannot wait to see them hanging in public for their war crimes as well, because they think that they are the only countries allowed to have nuclear power stations and weapons of mass destruction.

Bring back the cane for naughty children at school, hanging for murderes, hard labour for prisoners, get rid of the 5 star prisons and make life hell for these criminals.

The execution will cause huge problems in Iraq. I know that my son will never be able to go and see his grandmother because of all of this and this upsets me. Since America and then the British have gone in to "help" people can no longer go out in the streets and risk their lives opening businesses. There is no money and no freedom. Bush thinks he is helping but he didnt think it through and has made the situation worse than ever. and the worse thing is that he dosent care about it.

All that gets reported are the amount of American and British soldiers that get killed but you never hear how many Iraqis get killed EVERYday.

Your question makes me sad because the likes of you and me shouldn't have to question or answer these things. We elected politicians and now we don't like what they do. Is that what democracy is really all about? When you vote for someone do you expect them to accept and put forward your views?

There is no doubt that Saddam was a bad man - but does that give us the right to murder him? Does that give us the right to hang him by the neck until he is dead? The onus is on all of us.

I think that whether he lives or he dies is beside the point. Kill him and you make him a martyr. Leave him alive and you allow fanatics the chance to hi-jack planes or take people hostage to set him free.

And if I am to bring religion into the matter - who's God would you ask to provide Divine Retribution? (Despite the fact that Christian and Muslim actually believe in the same God according to both the Bible and the Koran!).

I just heard that 7 british servicemen have been wounded in a roadside bomb. When they hang Saddam expect the whole mess to kick off. It's just mistake after mistake.

Yes it will Iraq will still fight well those that were loyal to Saddam, it will be years before it becomes calm if it ever does.
