Can YOU name this tune?

Came out sometime between 1998 through 2001. Band sounds like, but almost surely it isn't, The Cure. Really hot guitar sounds....and the only lyrics I can recall is something like ".....the light fantastic", tightly followed by that wild guitar sound(s).

The song was rarely announced--thanks to "automated radio", so it's a mystery to me who actually did it---but I've been on the search of it for years. I've been impressed with Yahoo Answers! finding far tougher songs.....hope this one presents an easy challenge for someone.

Update:

Ok...sigh....here's my try at "mocking" the squealing guitar sound: "Ditta dit dit- DAHHH Ditta dit dit- DAHHH Ditta dit dit-DAHHH"

Update 2:

'Ditta dit dit-DAHHH Ditta dit dit-DAHHH......"the light fantastic".....Ditta dit dit-DAHHHH Ditta dit dit-DAAAHHH"

    GODDAMN YOU!!

Haven't let you in 'cause I'm in you

Haven't let you in 'cause I'm in you

Must have been a *****, must have been a pain

    Take me off the "innocent"

    Put me in your vein!

    IT'S IMPROBABLE

    IT'S IMPROBABLE

Haven't said a word 'cause you're still on

Haven't said a word 'cause you're still on

    Mustn't take offense, mustn't take a bow

    Used to be a derelict

Now I have to live with it!

    IT'S IMPROBABLE

    IT'S IMPROBABLE

    IT'S IMPROBABLE

YOU CAME BACK, BUT I KNOW BETTER, BOY

    Trip my light fantastic

    Rub me in your wound

I'm not broken, I'm not plastic

    I'm no whore...

Used against me - use me up again

    IT'S IMPROBABLE

The only "light fantastic" song I know came out first in the late 60's early 70's and then was remade by former Eurymthmic frontwoman, Annie Lenix. It's probably not the one you are looking for, but...

reading this questiong got it stuck in my head!!!

    We skipped the light fandango

    Turned cartwheels cross the floor

I was feeling kind of seasick

The crowd called out for more

    The room was humming harder

    As the ceiling flew away

When we called out for another drink

But the waiter brought a tray

    *And so it was later

As the miller told his tale

That her face at first just ghostly

Turned a whiter shade of pale

You said there is no reason

And the truth is plain to see

But I wander through my playing cards

And would not let it be

I'm one of the sixteen Vestal Virgins

Who are leaving for the coast

And although my eyes were open

They might just as well been closed

    (*Repeat)

    A whiter shade of pale

Turned a whiter shade of pale

    A whiter shade of pale
