You'll probably want to get the male out of there, and into his own container for a while.

Do NOT touch the babies. Momma is probably protective, and may not take care of them, if they carry your scent.

During the first 2-3 weeks of raising the babies, you should try not to disturb the nest. Do not clean the cage for at least the first 2 weeks.

Around 5-7 days you will see the pigment of the colour of the fur, and the fur will start to sprout shortly afterwards. At around 10 days the babies will be able to hear, and will have a growing coat of fur. The eyes will open at around 14 days, they will have a full coat of fur and you can start to think about handling them carefully, and for short periods of time whilst you clean the cage.

After around 21 days, the babies can be weaned from the mother, as they will no longer need her milk - although they may want to keep suckling. Shortly after they have been weaned, they need to be separated into two cages (one for each sex) where they can live for another 2-3 weeks before they will need an individual cage per hamster.

I would have a look at a professional hamster website.

I dont know much about hamsters but if they are anything like gerbils mating wise:

    1. you cannot remove the dad as it can cause stress to the mum.

    2. As long as you have clean hands you can touch the babies but dont pick them up too much as they are fragile.

3.The mother gerbil will only eat her baby is there is a shortage of water. She will sacrifice one to be able to provide enough milk to feed the other babies.

    4. Gerbils mate straight after giving birth so the mother hamster could be pregnant already.

    5. You can split them up once they have been weaned- in gerbils that is about 4-5 weeks old.

Have a look at any hamster websites for tips on telling the difference between the girls and boys. If not, try a vet.

    Right first things first

    SEPERATE THE ADULTS NOW!

The hamster gestation period is onl a couple of weeks, they will breed very fast even if they have a litter already

Get the babies out of there as soon as you think is possible, it is true some mothers eat their young.

Approach a pet shop to see if they'd let you put an ad up in their window, free ads are good too.

I know it sounds mad, cos you'll have like 10 cages or summat, but see if you can get large plastic boxes sorted, bear in mind it needs to have air holes and a lid, cardboard/shoeboxes are useless.

Check out ebay for cheap cages, the older basic versions go for a song and you could have some arrive as early as next week if you are fast enough.

Make sure the mother has plenty of food nearby so that she wont take a nibble out of a baby.

I cannot say this enough, seperate the adults now, the male has no purpose being in there now, he's done his job!

Use 'safebed' with thebabies, sawdust could be harmful whilst they are very young.

Anyway, good luck, sorry this sounded like a lecture, I did a lot of research into this when I found out my hammy was female, pesky pet shops eh!

Wish I could see a pic of them, depsite all the hassle I bet they're damn cute!

Don't touch them at all for at least a week, don't even peek at them or the mother will eat them. Probably best to remove the male father into his own cage. I bred my hamsters and had 6, I gave most of them away when they were about a month old all running around and about half the size of the adults. Sometimes your local pet store will take them if you can't find homes.

go to the pet shop and explain. 8 weeks later seperate the adults immediatly as they can become pregnent again straight afte having birth. Try to sell the pet shop the babies and advertise some in the paper. While you're waiting, bring the male hamsters in a cage with dad and the females in a cage with mum and CHECK to see which cex they are.

dont handle the babies as it can change their scent and make the parents abandon them. If you must pick them up, then use a towel or gloves.

Cover the cage with a towel or blanket to stop mummy and daddy hamster eating the babies because they feel threatened. Check with your local pet shop as to when they are old enough to be taken from their mum - I think it's approx 2 months (my brothers hamster had a babies and I am going from a memory about 10 years ago!)

The pet shop will probably take them or you could re-home them privately. When the babies are gone, separate them, or there will be more and more and more!!

That is so annoying that happened to me when I was younger--the people cannot tell if their sex always. But, it can be fun watching the babies.

Get that dude out of there. They can be weaned at 21 days and then you need to separate the males from females. Two weeks after than you can give them away.

Check out this website for tips on raising them:

Take the male away - they will mate again almost immediately and you could end up over-run with them. Separate them all as soon as they are eating solids and running around. You can find them new homes around 6 weeks.

I don't know that much about hamsters, but have you taken the male (dad) away? as I do know that they can eat the babies and also you don't want them to mate again.
