I worked for Bauer in the UK for 22 years so my knowledge of both is quite extent. Firstly, Rollerblade is a generic name (like Hoover) and we should relate the these as inline rollerskates. I have played both ice hockey & inline roller hockey and could do much the same on either. Figure skates of course have toe rakes and this is the only exception. You cannot do the type of jumps on inlines that you can on figure skates! Ice skate blades have an inside and an outside edge on each skate, however you get a similar effect with an inline wheel, if made of a good quality urathane. Most inline skate chassis have the ability for you to rocker the wheels, making them more like ice hockey skates.

Rockering the wheels gives you better turning ability, but reduces your speed as you have less contact with the ground. The same applies to ice skates. This is why speed skate blades are so long and have no rocker, they are also ground flat so the entire surface of the blade is against the ice. Lastly, if you turn sharply enough on inlines and lean away you can slide the wheels to stop just like you can on ice, but without the spray!!

I'm not sure if roller skating would be helpful. While many of the elements are similar, there are different techniques used and the feeling is different. Rollerblades may be more beneficial since the pushing technique is more closely related to skating. On rollerblades you might get a better idea for basic things like crossovers and swizzles. One thing I would recommend is stretching for skating so when you do get into lessons it is easier to catch onto things and the more flexible you are, the more you prevent injury. Or this may sounds silly (we all do it), but you can practice some skating things just by putting on a pair of socks and finding a smooth floor. Maybe get a book that explains some skating things and work on them at home.

  • I do a lot of the basic stuff on roller blades. It's just the difference that the brake is on the other end. it's heavier than ice skates mind you. But I've lately heard of picskates, they're roller blades that have the boots of ice skates, and have this thing in fron that kind of acts like a toe pick. A lot of skaters have said that this was effective.

You probably can two foot glide but maybe not other tricks. It is different because an ice skate has a toe pick and the roller blades have wheels so it is harder.

I would give that a definite no...They are completly different. Roller blading will help you tone and shape the muscles needed for ice skating. But as for moves....its way too different. No toe pick, no ability to slide side ways on the wheels like blades, no real bite into the ground from the wheels, no rocker on the roller blades, you dont jump the same way, they dont balance the same way, and they dont perform the same way.

You can do some of the same things on roller blades that you can on ice skates, but I fell that they are both very different because I can ice skate very well, and I can't roller blade. Part of the difference is when you have higher end figure skates they begin to get lighter than roller blades so it's easier to lift your feet, and things. They are similar so you can do some things on roller blades even though my preference is to practice it on ice.

Rollerblading and ice skating are different but it's very easy to practice stuff like basic gliding, edges and mohawks on rollerblades. You can also work on stuff like, fowards and backwards sculling, pumping around a circle and crossovers. As you progress be sure you are comfortable stopping quickly - I like the pivot stop personally (focus your weight between the first two wheels of say your left foot and anchor it while your right foot make a wide inside edge.

If you're still striving to boost you're straight and you're trying to get your hands over the edge, set Vert Shock to the test, a program that you will believe it is here https://tr.im/k9JC9  and give it a take to, you will end up surprised of how fast you may become an animal hopper in the event that you teach the best way.

This program will not allow you to leap 1000s of instances because Vert Shock was created and used by actual elite stage basketball players.

In regards down to it, if you really want to jump higher, you just discovered the very best system on the planet to complete so. Every other way would just be considered a waste of time.

  • You can practice almost everything (even jumps and spins) I'm not kidding there's this sport called roller figure skating and its almost like figure skating. Look on youtube or google and you'll see. Its really cool, all the similarities
