VISTA- Angel or Devil?

the main problem with vista, is they made so many changes between the last beta and the final release, they screwed themselves. Most of the hardware incompatibilities didn't exist in the beta version, because all of the vendors had working drivers for the beta. Then Microsoft came out with the commercial release, and now all of the sudden none of those drivers worked anymore, leaving the vendors scrambling to come up with working drivers for their hardware. In the meantime, the consumer gets screwed because he or she immediately ran out to buy vista, then installed it only to find half their hardware no longer functioned. The final beta worked great from everyone I talked to that used it. I would wait until vista is a year old before I would install it, give the hardware companies time to catch up. But then I always recommend sticking with the OS that was put on your computer to begin with, since that's the one it was designed to run with.

As far as Linux goes I really don't have much experience with it. I have installed it on a laptop once, but I could not get my Cingular aircard to function so I went back to XP. I was impressed with it otherwise. At the current time, i think XP is the best OS out there for the PC market because it is stable and has the least amount of compatibility issues.

The embedded DRM keeps me away, as does the lack of drivers for peripherals.

Micro$oft is pressuring the OEM's to bundle Vista.

Ubuntu (Gnome desktop) AND Kubuntu (KDE) are both excellent. Download either OS and they can be run as a "Live CD" then decide.

I use Linux, OS X and Windoze (Malware Hell) in that order. But I make a good living repairing Windows, thanks for the Swiss Cheese Bill.

linux is very stable but also lacks the friendliness of windows.

as a professional i would use linux but as a mass consumer i would sue windows.

i heard from several sources that vista is quite a hand full of problems but i don't know if it is enough to replace it by linux from the point of view of a mass consumer.

writing code and compiling in linux is much more thorough and linux itself leaves room for the versed user to configure his/her machine exactly as s/he wants!

so linux for professionals and windows for all others!

Dell have reversed their commitment to Vista, and now you can buy laptops and desktops with XP again as there was a huge negative backlash.

i only had one problem with my vista and that was that my wireless internet software would not download. I called the comj pany and they said that the cd was for windows xp. So all i had to do was install the new driver!!!!!!!!

vista is like mi5 it has more spyware and data gathering tools to spy on your activities i use linux and i love it its far superior than windows i have recommended it to everyone i can

i heard an opinion that recent auto updates are making XP more & more unstable - to make people go to Vista..:)
