Would I be racist if I funded a 'Music of White Origin' awards ceremony?
The MOWOs, has a ring to it!! But more seriously do things like the MOBOs, the recent BB eviction, actually do damage? They create and build barriers, rather than improve society.
This is more a follow up to the current double standards racsim row on BB. Does not bother me either way, but for any credibility or future this whole racism, sexist or any minoritist type thing needs either sorting out or just give up on it.
You telling me Blacks are unfairly treated in the music world, that ended years ago...
It is a long time since anyone was really persecuted and it certainly did not effect milliom dollar records deals.
C&A, was thinking more of rock, metal, punk, ska,... but in general it is the positive discrimination that i disagree with.

The only people who would be offended by MOWO's are white liberals. Black people wouldn't be offended. Do whatever makes you happy as long as it isn't trying to put down another race in the process

I don't think so, it's a cultural celabration, not a racial issue. The million man march was for men of African American descent, some blacks considered it celebration of their victories and rights, some tried to use it as a 'poor me' ploy some for political reasons. What kind of message do you think it would convey to the general populace if a million white men did this. There are radio stations all over the country that play only music by black artists. Is this racism, no it's cultural celebration. What about BET, we don't have one TV station in the U.S. that delivers only white sitcoms, news, etc. Blacks have a strong sense of their historical and cultural heritage, (negative and positive). Many whites do to, I have been to many cultural heritage events, some were for blacks, some for whites, and some for various Asian races. Though I was a minority at the black events, I was treated with hospitality and kindness. A few blacks asked what I was doing there, and I told them that I have a strong affinity for all races, cultures and so on, especially in my own country, and that I was curious to find certain aspects about black heritage that I was ignorant of at the time. Their dispositions changed completely and they felt honored to share their heritage with me. If anyone attends a Chinese New Year's celebration in the U.S. they will witness the most mutliracial annual celebration we have here. Yes, it is all about Chinese culture and heritage, but everyone seems to love it. I have been to many Native American gatherings and there were many blacks and whites with Native American ancestry, again, no problem. I personally feel that one's attitude reflects outward and people pick up on it. A twist from the famous quote by Forrest Gump, racist is as racist does. I'm all about a total elimination of racism, with total respect to various cultures that may be predominant to any particular race. We can be non-racist and celebrate our heritages and each other's, and if we respect this we will (are already doing) developing a new mulitiracial and muticultural heritage which is one of the greatest things about the U.S. I personally think this is inevitable.

From the 'computing device long gone mad' attitude, I trust what you're asserting. yet....& think of heavily approximately this in the previous you TD this people, I reckon you will not have an undesirable lot of music in that ceremony. maximum, if no longer all, rock & pop music from the final 50 years or so is derived from blues, which got here from Negro slaves interior the nineteenth century. don't have self belief me? verify out the style of black dudes quoted as concept via all and sundry from the Beatles to Motorhead. i'm getting your factor, yet maximum cutting-facet music IS of black foundation.

Some people on here are ignorant...claiming the CMA doesn't have blacks in it's awards ceremony. There have been a few blacks there, too for the last couple of years. Dayam...watch the show before you go embarrassing yourselves in public like this, huh?

There already is one, it's called the CMA's.
To the young lady far below, I know that there are black country music singers, however, the country genre is largely "music of white origin"; unlike rock.

No, you wont be. Go ahead and celebrate whatever you got... Whether you got it or not is a whole 'notha issue!
We have the MOBOs - and we certainly have much to celebrate when it comes to music, see, most music genres originate from jazz/blues - and we know that jazz is black! And we celebrate that.
So knock yourself out...

Yeah right, this stupid broad above me has it all wrong. Hey miss rey1101, where did you get that hat? Did you steal it from the white western culture? PS where did the guitar come from Im sure it was not invented in Africa, alls you got out there is drums and ****!

Just because there is a MOBO doesn't mean that it's exclusive to black people. Do you hate white people like Justin Timberlake or M and M 'cos they sing 'black songs'. What's your real point?

Yes it would, because 'whites' are not potentially unfairly penalised due to their color. Minorities face discrimination in various ways so affirmative action of the process of supporting, them moreso to increase exposure to others as a mechanism of acceptance. Of course that can produce resentment as people seem to only percieve injustice that occurs to them so they view affirmative action as unfair, yet they are neglecting to take into account the issues of the minorities.
