Do animals have a sense of humour?
Do they find things funny? Can they laugh? I've never heard David Attenborough mention anything about this, so I'm thinking the answer might be no.
On the other hand, I did once see a cat that was definitely embarassed because it lost its footing on a garden wall and stumbled a bit. So if they can be embarassed, can they laugh at other animals behaving in a similar slapstick fashion?

Yes. I'm pretty sure animals can laugh. I have two dogs...one of them tripped over her food dish and ended up falling in her water dish. I heard SOMETHING definitely resembling a laugh from my other dog. They can definitely find humor in stuff and laugh.

I remember two pieces of film I have seen. One was a elephant in the background while his 'keeper' talked to the camera - the elephant repeatedly tried to attract his attention and was duly ignored. Eventually the elephant picked up a trunk full of dung and wiped it all over the keepers shirt!
The other film was about a big experiment many years ago teaching chimps sign language. Washo the chimp and others. They learnt lots of signs like drink, eat etc. One of them became increasingly peeved with one of the humans and came up with biggest insult it could manage in its limited language, calling the human a dirty toilet!
These examples may not be ideal for illustrating the sense of humour, but they certainly show imaginative thought which is on the same path.

Definatly - my collie has a brilliant sense of humour. Her favourite thing to do in the car is to bark at bikes - she waits until we are right alongside then does a hound of the baskervilles impression - she finds it hilarious when they wobble. If the car and bike are stopped at lights she waits until they start moving again. My mom's last collie was the same but she used to wait at the bottom of the garden for people to go passed and scare the living daylights out of them.
Strangly she hates it if you laugh at her when she does something funny - she goes and sulks.

I once read an article in the local newspapers - yes, dogs laugh and the fast breathing/huffing and puffing is the laughter.
My dog loves it when I scratch its forehead and it "laughs" whenever I do that.
And I agree with some of the posters that dogs can feel embarassed. Cos my dog gave me "that look" when it farted. Too cute!

i've got faith they do. As to wether it somewhat is inherent or obtained i think of the y acquire it in the process the touch with their exterior worldwide yet technique it in a diverse way in accordance to their very own "personalities" so i assume it somewhat is the two inherent and obtained. My canine has an particularly sarcastic eye for an eye fixed humorousness, everytime my boyfriend could conceal decrease than the sheets whilst he heard him coming he stole some thing of his and then held it on his mouth waiting for my bf back out of hiding and whilst he did, he began working together with his wallet for my bf to chase him hahahaha. If my boyfriend farted then my canine could too!!!! In time they developed this very goofy (and poisonous) opposition. humorous element is my canine does not have any abdomen matters, in actuality he in straightforward terms farted whilst my bf replaced into around LOL. i ought to bypass on and on....

Well my dog smiles (dalmatians are famous for smiling).. but she only really does that when she is excited.
She wags her tail when we say something in a weird voice to her sometimes.. so yeah, I guess that is kinda like laughing!
