How can I make my notice period more bearable?
I am currently working out my notice period before moving on to bigger and better things, but for the moment I'm stuck doing a highly repetitive and soul-destroying task -I have ten days to go, any ideas as to what can I do to retain my tenuous grip on reality?
Much appreciated! And yes, I am already using Answers as a suitable outlet for my anger and frustration. No fear of being sacked, you see!

How about planning a good evening activity to look forward to each day? You could transform those ten days into a pleasurable overall experience. And what about doing something enjoyable over lunch? That mundane daily task could prove to be the way in which you recover from the hectic pace of your social life! Glad you've got something good to move on to!

DON'T whatever you do play the revenge game. It's enough that you're going somewhere and the people you don't like are stuck where they are, going nowhere - that's the best revenge you could get! Taking revenge for every petty little thing could well set you up for a fall, especially if you've stayed in the same industry. I remember someone I used to work with made a huge fuss about leaving (and not saying where she was going), and generally made life hell for anyone she felt had slighted her, and it backfired spectacularly. Turns out her old boss knew one of the directors at her new company and it came up in conversation - she didn't last past her trial period.
Instead, paste on a smile, and while doing your monotonous, boring task to the best of your ability plan a brilliant night out or party right after your last day for those you like, and just don't invite the ones you don't. Maybe if a party isn't an option, make a shopping list for a small, inexpensive (even gag) gift for each of them, wrap each in bright paper (while having a break from the soul-destroying task) and put on their desk / in their desk drawer during lunch on your last day.
The above works really well, as if the objectionable hags (yes, there's one in my office who spends way too much time slobbering on the Boss's shoes!) demand "where's mine?" then they are the ones who look bad, not you. You're entitled to give gifts to whoever you like!
If you have time off before your new job starts, plan your holiday - works for me!

Knowing that the end is near would make me have a good day already. You have ten days to go. One at a time. You may find yourself seeing more positive things about your current situation, realizing it is only for a little while longer.

What you should do is think of the other side before your day starts. Also get a big Corporate Calendar and mark each day with a Big Black X. I had 10 years worth in my cube at one place, there were really dark blotches for those especially bad days.

Make yourself up a "countdown calendar" -- 10 days, 9 days, 8 days, etc!!! On the last day make one up with the hours left to go!!!
You could also put some "funny" sayings on it -- since there's no fear of being sacked you could put 10 days left until freedom, 9 days left before I go onto greener pastures, etc!!!

have you had the reference from your current employer yet? if so then get in late take longer than usual breaks surf the net leave early prank people - get your own back on that person that really annoys you. there is so much to do. set up errors int he filing system or leave a system error in the companies systems.
