Crackdown on Pasty purchasing?

http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news?article...

" A bizarre pasty ban was slapped on a West Yorkshire man by supermarket giants Tesco.

Andrew Williamson, who runs A2B taxis in Ossett, says he was threatened with police action after he tried to buy eight Cornish pasties at a store in Batley.

Mr Williamson said he was told there was a six-pasty rule when he tried to pay for his family's tea on Sunday.

He said: "I couldn't believe it. They're Ginsters pasties, not paracetamol, it's not like you can overdose on them.

"I asked if there was a sign telling people about this rule – and they said no, there wasn't.

"There were about 20 members of staff around the till – I felt like a criminal – people probably thought we'd been shoplifting.

"They even threatened me with the police."

Mr Williamson added: "I asked if we could go out and send one of the kids in to buy two more but they said no."

Have you ever been prevented from buying anything in bulk?

Most shops have terms and conditions about buying bulk items (especially when it's the b.o.g.o.f items)

This story did make me chuckle though. However, it was pathetic that the poor family were made to feel like criminals, they could have let the kids buy some.

The story is a bit silly.

I think Andrew was a bit stupid for not just abiding by the shops rules, at the end of the day, its their shop, they put up a sign saying how many you could buy. He chose to ignore that. Bigger fool him.

On the other hand, Tesco were stupid when the guy was only 2 over the limit. It wasnt like he was trying to buy every product they had.

So all in all, a non story that ive just wasted 2 minutes of my life replying too ........ oh god, better get back to the Maddie story.

Several low-cost supermarkets near me have a limit on purchases, this is to prevent shopkeepers selling on at reccommended price. At one of these supermarkets a few weeks ago they were selling a well known brand of "pop" at 4 ltrs. for the price of two,the maximum total buy was 6 bottles per person, needless to say people were going round twiceand paying at different checkouts, they were even sending their kids in, the y were then loading up their cars, you can understand supermarkets putting limits on when this sort of thing is happening. In my opinion though, in this case the checkout operator should have used his/ her discretion !

I guess he was 'abusing' a buy one get one free offer. All supermarkets have the same rule.
