Insurance, the govenment is bailing out those uninsured! So why bother having it.?

It is a joke, that we the tax payer have to bail out those who cant be bothered. Pathetic.

Pensioners etc. is fair enough, they have family who should help them first, if not then they deserve government money as they have paid their due to Society.

Update:

Is any insurance premium too high if you can't afford to replace stuff yourself, that is what insurance is for?

Update 2:

not insured for floods, surely the warning signs were there already, but mortgage companies should make it mandatory. How many of the uninsured smoke, drink, drive big cars, have sky tv, it is all about prioirities

Update 3:

Idiots wont build in flood zones , if idiots dont buy them, environment website has a map of the whole UK showing the flood zones, you just tap in the post code for your street.

Update 4:

DIOR - loose the caps lock, it is IMPOSSIBLE to read. Why the rant im not talking about Life or accident insurance, i am taking about Building and Contents insurance, £10-30 per month is nothing, you pay tax on cigarettes as they are bad for you and will cover the costs to the NHS when you die young, not for people in floods. I think you dont realy understand where different elements of you tax go. Get insured and take responsibility for your own life.

I totally agree with you. I work full time, so 1 week every 4 i work my money goes to the people who cant be ar**d to pay for insurance.

Its a joke! They should make it a condition when buying a property that you have contents insurance as well as buildings.

I agree with pensioners and all that as well.

Insurance companies will cover the cost of the damage , for those that have insurance

As for those that do not have insurance , we the tax payer are expected to pay , as you said what a joke , why should we

My local Council ( Bedford ) conspired with my ex landlord , his agent and others to Rob me of everything I owed , except what I stood in , The Govenment don't even want to know about it

So as far as I am concerned , I think if these people decided not to take out insurance then thats there look out , why should I have to pay for there mistakes , when no one even wants to help me , Why is it because I'm English

some people were insured just not against flood damage as many insurance companies don't offer this (especially if you live in an area prone to flooding or some bloody idiot company built your house on a flood plain!!) You can sometimes get this kind of insurance but at a sky high, unrealistic price which is why the government are having to bail so many out. Maybe they should review insurance instead?

Its not just about replacing belongings, have you seen the structural damage? I think belongings are the last thing on many people's minds!

Has it occured to you that some of this housing is social housing for people who cannot afford to buy? Some people have been negligent in not being insured but there are people who genuinely need help. We are not always made aware when houses are built on flood plains so how would we know? It shouldn't be allowed, it is not down to buyers to stop this trend but developers and local councils!

I think you are being very mean spririted.

Because the government doesn't bail out individuals when their house burns down without insurance. Just when a major event occurs.

I think it's OK to provide them with essentials such as fresh water, food, clothing and temporary accommodation, but if someone isn't insured they shouldn't have their luxury items (eg TVs, DVDs etc) replaced.
