Does anyone have any tips for overcoming phobias?
I've got a real problem with needles, but have been told I have a probable genetic condition that I really should get blood tested for. I was given the opportunity to scarper today before the phlebotomist could stick me. She got as far as cleaning my arm before I ran for it. Next time my mum is going to come with me, so escape won't be an option.
Are there any books that people can recommend or other tips for overcoming phobias?

Cognitive behavioural therapy is definitely a good plan and you should be able to get it free through your doctor's surgery. Ask your GP about it.

You were nearly there...A good way of overcoming a fear is to confront it,like you i also hate needles, like really bad but had to confront it as i needed to have my mouth numbed before a filling,i even asked if i could have the filling without anesthetic, they thought i was nuts.try think about something you need to do while they do what they have to do,like a holiday or shopping or something

i think just facing it is the best thing you can do
when you have a phobia you imagine it as being a million times worse, when actually it's not as bad as you think
good luck!
