Is there anything that Tesco doesn't do?

They've got groceries, clothes, electrical & electronics, furniture, car insurance, loans, credit cards, mobile phones and now, some sort of a comparison site.

Have they gone too far and grown too big?

Update:

jamand: LOL.. would you do it on the conveyor belt on in your trolley?

    They don't do decent meat!

I bought a lump of lamb for a dinner party from the 'butcher' within tesco and when i came to have a good look at it the quality was very poor considering i paid quite a lot for it.

So poor i went to a real butcher who talked to me about how i wanted to cook it, discussed exactly what the best cut would be and a few tips on getting the best from it.

The meat was far superior and although it was around the same price it was much better value for money.

We're all being conned into think this mass marketing 'shop within a shop' such as the butchers, the fishmongers, the bakery is any better than the stuff they have just sitting on the shelves.

It's about image and our perception of food being fresh/quality/value because ot the fake shop frounts.

The more we shop there, the more chance we will lose our local butcher, fishmonger, even electrical shops, etc and then we will have no choice in where we can spend our money.

Well i guess they are very good at business, recently they launched a DVD rental service, which is hassle free because you pay a fixed price every month and sign no contracts. You can keep the DVD's for longer as there is no late charge. And the best part is that they have an absolutely hugh selection of DVD's to choose from so you can find virtually any DVD you want.

So this way they are making sure that no one else can compete with them.

Having said that though i do agree with the fact that they are growing too big and it's only a matter of time before they start doing cars and all the other things you guys have just mentioned.

yes i can name a few...

they don't have a Chinese/Indian restaurant within their shopping centre.. instead they have horrible Ian Beal (from Eastenders type cafe's)

they don't provide nannies to look after you kids while you shop.

they haven't employed supermodels..male/ female to prance around there store and covering ever isle of the shop, so that the shoppers could stalk them while going through each isle and picking up stupid useless things they didn't go there to buy.

they dont own a hospital.. although they may sell heath insurance.. so scrap that.

    what else... hhmm

they dont sell Marques Houston posters! :p

so here are a few ideas they could try covering.

i know something they dont do! they dont exchange a digital camera purchased just under a year ago that's faulty! my hubby bought it for me as a birthday present and it no longer works and they claim without a receipt that i could have bought it anywhere! just goes to show they really must sell everything if they cant even remember something they sold under a year ago.

Yes, they are killing off the traditional high street.

As a retailer myself I am being pushed out by these money grabbing supermarkets.

Good they are expanding. Where there is a will there is a way. Let them also grow in Automobiles, breweries, call centres, Airlines, cruises, hotels and many many more. Please wish them good luck along with me.
