Daughter's math homework has me stumped!!!?
These are the details: Each term of a sequence is found by adding one to the numerator and three to the denominator of the previous term. Find the expression of the nth term

to find the nth number you need a formula (equation)
the num,erator is the top number and it increases by 1
the denominator is the bottom number and it goes up by 3
so for the top we start with 1 and add 1 for each n
numerator = 1 + 1(n-1) thats so for n = 1 we get 1
denominator will be 2 + 3(n-1) THE -1 adjusts for the start
since it is the first number + a value for each step.
(1+ (n-1))/(2+3(n-1)) = q is the answer
so n = 1 q = 1/2
n= 2 q = 2/5
see that wasnt that hard :-)

1/2 2/5 3/8 4/11 5/14 6/17 7/20 8/23 9/24
1+1=2
2+3=5 hence 2/5 etc.
Answer = 9/24

Equinox has it right.
n/3n-1
the top number is just adding one each time, so it will always be n
the bottom is done by adding three so it is determined by 3n.
since the starting point was 1/2, you need to subtract 1 to get the 2 in the denominator.
If the starting term had be 3/5 for example then you need to do (n+2)/(3n+2). The addition and subtraction of terms is just to accommodate the starting point. You use multiplication to get to each next term.

the nth term is...
n / 2n+1
try it out, it works :D
oh, it helps to have what number of sequence each fraction is
e.g. 1/2 is 1 2/5 is 2 etc.

well just keep adding one to the number in front of the / and adding 3 to each number behind the /
