My friend needs homework help. Its about simplifying variable expressions. Here's the problem:
Justify each step.
___________= 5n + (20+9n)
___________= 5n + (20+9n)
___________= (5n + 9n) +20

I'll do the first one just to show you how to do the rest.
5n + (20 + 9n) =
Get rid of the parentheses. They're not needed in this case. For all the three problems you posted, just remove them.
5n + 20 + 9n =
Add your like terms.
14n + 20 =
To solve for n, subtract 14n on both sides.
So...
20 = -14n
Divide both sides by -14.
20/-14 = -14n/-14
So then you get...
(approximately) 1.429 = n
