She only became Elizabeth the 1st when Elizabeth the 2nd succeeded to the throne in 1951 or 1952. Before that she was just Queen Elizabeth.

(born 1533, reign 1558 - death 1603)
In 1558, twenty-five year old Elizabeth became Queen of England.
Mary I died on 17th of November, 1558 and Elizabeth reigned for the next 44 years.
The coronation of Queen Elizabeth was on January 16th, 1559.

1952. When an Elizabeth came to the throne again, the previously unnumbered Queen Elizabeth had to be numbered Elizabeth I.
