Damaged finger nail?
I had a very heavy door fall on my finger on Sunday (two days ago). Anyway, it bled quite a lot when it happened, but finger injuries are a bit disgusting and I didn't look too closely. Anyway I took the plaster off today and I think that rather than bleeding at the bottom of the injury (near the knuckle), it was bleeding from the nail bed and I've dislodged the nail (it also feels less attached down one side, especially if I catch it while typing). Do I need to go to my GP about this?
It's not particularly painful, just uncomfortable, hot and a bit swollen.

No you don't need to go and see your GP..There isn't much they can do for a damaged nail. It will probably drop off within the next week. Providing you haven't irreparably damaged the nail bed it will grow back :)
When to see a doctor:-http://www.drgreene.com/21_641.html
Blood collects under the nail, causing increasing pain.
The finger or toe can't be straightened and bent easily.
The injury causes immediate damage to the nail, such as a visible tear below the "quick".
The skin is open and may need stitches.
There is dirt in the wound you can't wash out.
Sometimes blood collects under the nail -- what we call a subungual hematoma. When handled properly, this does not increase or decrease the odds of the nail healing well. If enough blood is trapped to cause painful throbbing, the nail should be evaluated.
Often the physician will pierce the nail to relieve the pressure. The physician might use a red-hot paper clip, an 18-gauge needle, or an electrocautery machine. While the procedure sounds gruesome (and looks dramatic when the blood starts to spurt from the hole), most people feel great relief and no discomfort. The hot tool glides through the nail like butter.

I shouldn't think so. If you have dislodged it or damaged it badly enough for it to come away from your finger then what will happen is that a new nail will begin to grow underneath it. Eventually (after several weeks or so) the old one will fall off. At first the new nail might be disfigured but eventually it'll be back to normal. Just keep it clean while it heals.

Oh yes, see your doctor. This is something that should be addressed as soon as possible. You might loose the nail, and it is much better to have a bit of numbing agent present when you do. The doctor will possible x ray to make sure no little bones were broken, and he can also help wrap it so you don't feel as much of the discomfort as you do now. You might still need a tetanus shot, just in case. So, yes, a doctors visit is in order here.

Keep it dry, if it gets wet it could cause bacteria to form. If the nail is dislodged then you will probably end up losing it. I had my thumb shut in a car door and lost the nail, nothing the doctor could do but advised me not to get it wet to give the wound chance to dry up and heal.

i would check at the hospital but if the nail does fall out do NOT put it back in, its unhygienic. my friend got it stuck in the door once and the nail all came off. after a few weeks the new nail started to grow. i think you should ask the doctor if you should take the nail out.
please tell me if this helped

Maybe you could pay a visit to A&E as they may have to sort that nail out. You could also have an infection in it by now. Dont leave it as it sounds as though it is going to be very painful. Good luck.

The nail will almost certainly fall off and a new one will grow in it's place.

confident, it rather is feasible, in spite of the shown fact that this is painful. I had 3 fingernails bumped off when you have them smashed on a automobile door. They gerw out in approximately 3 weeks, to finished. You coudl continually ask your surgeon approximately it, yet confident, it rather is feasible.
