Racially aggravated harassment?

See news article:

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/rtrs/20071130/tuk-uk-brit...

So my questions are:

1) Did the woman not mind being called a b1tch as much as she minds being called English?

2) I thought that "harassment" would constitute more than one incident? How can she be harassed over one bout of name calling?

    1) I think it was the combination which got to her. A man with an Irish accent having the temerity to tell her, in her own country, that she was English. One must sympathise.

    2) Harassment indeed requires behaviour of an offensive kind on at least two occasions. The racially aggravating nature of the offence was introduced by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998

and the ofence of harassment is defined in the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

I wonder whether this is a bit of sloppy reporting and this was, in fact, an offence under the Public Order Act rather than the Protection from Harassment Act.

  • Yes it is and that man is so wrong.

He should never call anyone names and certainly not with a nationality as she might be offended.

Welsh people deserve full respect and they often don't get it and so the Welsh nationality needs protecting.

We are so fortunate Wales stands loyally by the UK and does not leave UK so we must respect the Welsh in return.

harassment happens over a period of time... i know this for a fact because me n my bf have an harassment order on his ex and we cant do anything unless she sends at least 1 message over say a week or so.... anyway he has been racist.... even though it was a spare of the moment, anybody would say comment, he used english as an insult, implying that it wasnt a good thing to be english.

he should think himself lucky it wasnt a muslim, he would of probly been hanged or stoned or lashed or something.

im sorry to say but it is one rule for one race and a different for another

I doubt the woman liked being called a ***** and he was probably aggressive. Its not up to the woman to charge him,she would have made the complaint and the police would have charged him.It would have been their decision.

Well maybe she was a b*tch - so be could not be prosecuted for telling the truth - only for calling her English which was not true? Ble*eding madness isn't it. You could call me anything you want - I might thump the hell out of you but I wouldn't prosecute you.

Personally I think the whole article was a waste of time...... and think about it...I'd be more offended being called a "******,honkie,cracker,chank...etccc....) than a "*****". ..she just either waants a quick buck or her ten minutes of fame
