Automatic violation.?

Can we campaign for Yahoo to treat homophobic comments such as 'That's so gay', in the same way as they would if the comments were of a racist nature or offensive to religion? I'm getting throughly fed up with seeing the word 'gay' used as the catch all insult.

Update:

I am aware that the word also means 'happy'. My problem is when it is used in a context where it is intended to be offensive. If the word 'black' where used in the same way it would rightly not be considered acceptable.

i agre with what you saying and i understand the context you are saying it in, i think there should be a system where if people report them , they should log it , so that everytime they have an answer banned the yshould be allowed a maxium of 2 bans in one catogory, and then should be totally and utterly banned from answering in that catogory, i feel this would cut it down, because i get sick of both rascist and homophobics answering questing in such a ridiculas manner,

    Hi,

I am not for that idea. Anyone can get whacked and lose all their points and levels over certain key words or phrases and I do think the moderation is looking carefully enough or perhaps doesn't have time to study words and their context.

I could just picture posting the Song from South Pacific,

" I am as bright and as gay as a daisy

And May a cliche coming true!"

Gay back in the late 40's meant very happy yet younger people may totally misinterpret and run this sort post off.

Honestly we are getting to politically correct for our own good. People can't say anything without fearing they are offending someone with something they said in a way they didn't intend it to be taken. Some people used the word gay as in carefree or happy. Of course its not used in that way much anymore. What happened to just ignoring ignorance. I have nothing against anyone just fed up with the political correctness issue. What happened to freedom of speech AND the freedom to ignore?

I'm very fed up with thin skinned people who get upset when someone says some word they don't like. Read the damned 1st amendment to the US Constitution. Grow up and get a friggen life.

I think you need to grow some thicker skin.

If everything that offended anyone was banned then we wouldn't have much of a language to speak, all of our words would be marked out because they "are too offensive"

    Just my opinion though.

why dont you just stay at home and dont go out into the big scary world................gay used to mean happy and carefree many people still use it that way. What do you say to people that consider themselves to be part of the gay community....just keep your eye open and report all you can, it is good to see that YA are now getting to grips with sad people that report for stupid reasons.

There's a section of yahoo called "Report Abuse" or something like that, its for the whole yahoo network not just Answers. That would be the only place I know of to register complaints.

This is why I never use the word "gay" with reference to homosexual types; I get thoroughly fed up with seeing the word hi-jacked by the homosexual community.

Certainly not..PC has become ridiculous as it is. Free speech is being eroded, pretty soon there will be a list of which words we are allowed to use.....over my dead body!
