Is just Bus Drivers who use the abbreviation RHT?

RHT is short for Right Hand Thumb - to say thanks to other motorists for letting them pull out.

I used to drive a bus and never heard of that abbreviation. But I was always waving and giving thumbs up to those who were courteous enough to let me pull out. UK Highway code rule # 198 states that drivers should give way and let buses pull out anyway, but few seem to these days, instead accelerating to get round the bus as its pulling out, endangering themselves, the bus and oncoming traffic. Just let bus go... it`ll most probably pull in at the next stop anyway so you can overtake then.

I was a busmen for forty two years and have never heard that expression before. We always acknowledge help from other drives by a raised hand. In the bus world a raised thumb was to indicate to other bus drives that all was well, a down pointed thumb usually meant that there was a Bus Inspector in the vicinity. I personally think a raised thumb is used by all and sundry to acknowledge assistance

i'm led to believe that bus drivers should use the thumbs up signal to show acknoledgement to giving way, some lorry drivers use it too, truth is that today people are just to ignorant

to even bother , if any bus drivers read this . REMEMBER
