T&T - residence & employment?

Question

What specific legislation in Trinidad & Tobago covers matters of employment for foreigners, and rules about acquiring residence for foreigners married to Trinidadian nationals? I ask for two main reasons (1) many government job advertisements specify that applicants must be nationals, but does this have any legal basis (my experience is with UK public sector)? (2) I was originally told that, as a UK citizen marrying a Trini, I would get residence automatically, but this then became a wait for an interview in August (since January), with a need for me to produce police records in T&T and UK, and have a health check - is this right?

nah ent no automatic nothin & it take years (at least 3)
police record - if you been in T&T for 6 months o more - you only need T&T letter...if you been in UK during dem 6 months before you interview - you need dat UK info

you shud av a bank account in T&T wud b best - get it wen yah get down dere, but make copies a previous account if yah av 1 now

sommin showin you can pay yah own way, not gonna live off public funds (job letta o bank statement shud do for at first)

as for yah healt ting - dat havvi b done in T&T by trini dr. 

as for gettin job, afta yah first intaview (when yah produce all yah documents) dey will give yah a recommendation for a work permit waiva....i dunno wat afta dat.

keep dis in mind - it is a slow process. before yah go get all possible paperwok in line, make copies of eryting you will need  [specially if yah work in an office & can make free copies, you need 3 a each ting]
birth certificates for you & spouse
marriage certificate - if yah been married b4, proof of divorce
passport - face page & all pages dat been stamped
bank statements/evidence a assets
letta a employment - you & spouse

for yah spouse:
travel docs, birth certificate & national ID
affidavit (in triplicate) stating day ent loose citizenship or became citizen a otha country or dat dey ent lose residency status

i wud suggest you do affidavit in T&T...get all paperwok yah can & take care a eryting else when yah get to T&T

oh- so yah doh get caught up, when yah go to T&T - IMMEDIATELY go get yah passport extension i tink it bout $500TT & begin application process.
you may need to av return flight info jus to get tru immigration (roundtrip tix usually cheaper anyway) but you will av to pay $3,000TT security bond so if day decide to not approve yah app you be on 1st ting outta country.
you will av an appointment ery year for 3years where yah will av to produce dese documents all ova again & it can take 3-8 yrs to get residency, afta yah resident for 8yrs (i tink) is when yah can apply for citizenship.

av patience cuz even system doh kno where yah post to go wit wat o wen.
