To add a witty little addendum at the end of a question. I've also heard it said, "Pretty please-with sugar on it.

Anything that increases the size and/or role of the federal government is constantly referred to as "socialist." Basically, if it involves government intervention where it used to be free market or less restricted, or where the government begins taking control of things that it was never intended to control. Socialism is dangerous, as it creates a powerful federal government with limitless control and broadly generalizes all people into the same category, a sort of industry of human lives. It is obvious especially when it disrupts natural free market in an attempt to make things more "equal" or "fair." Fortunately, not many people in America are actually Socialists. Many liberal views, such as universal health care, and redistribution of wealth, are based on aspects of socialism, but less extreme than actual socialism. Conservatives want a smaller federal government, more power into local governments, and more "personal responsibility" and less "government intervention." Basically, upholding most of the American Constitution, without wishing to change our system of government from the original ideas when the country was founded. Which is better? You decide, I'm not here to persuade you, I'm an Independent.

Saying please in a pretty way, I guess they're trying to act cute. Usually when they say that at the end of the question, they want you to do something for them.

it just means please
people say this when they know they are asking you to do something for them which you shouldn't otherwise do.. or.. if they are asking too much of you but don't care and so add pretty.. to make them sound sympathetic, cute and thoughtful all at the same time.. its similar to looking at someone with puppy dog eyes.

They're trying to make it cute by saying "pretty please" instead of "please." It's really annoying when you hear that a lot!!

emphasis. It's not just please, it's please I really want you to say yes.
