Will you understand that the Environment is the key to our future?

Like a train heading full-speed for the buffers, no-one seems to care - or do they?

Update:

I've given everyone a thumbs-up for their answers so far - Hiya folks! Why not join the Green Party?

Update 2:

Thank \\\\you JC, I am not living in an ivory tower, I am well aware about how the environment affects us

Update 3:

Population control isn't the issue, it's control of resources. People will always reproduce. It's the distribution of resources which is the issue.

Update 4:

"Stop believing all of the liberal hype about global warming, climate change, and the environment. You're working yourself into a lather over things that man is powerless to change"

I am not going to believe that!!

You are the one that needs a reality check!

I agree. I applaud efforts at finding alternative and renewable energy sources, specifically wind and solar energy!

I'm not too convinced about the ethanol. In order to keep up with the demand for energy we'd have to destroy a lot of land just to grow more corn. We can see the impact the 10% of ethanol used in gasoline is having on agriculture already.

I am also reading about the effect of the various pollutants we humans contribute to our environments and how they damage precious ecosystems. Also, damage to an unborn fetus is increased the more a pregnant woman is exposed to high concentrations of everyday pollution (think of overly populated areas).

Some people laugh but in my household we use environmentally safe products. It's a bit more expensive and takes more elbow grease but it's worth it. We're at least trying.

I don't know why some people consider pollution to be false when it is very real. I remember at one time not being able to go swimming at the beach because medical waste was washing up on shore...

I love the Discovery Channel (HD, woohoo!) and recently watched a program about scientists who went to alaska looking for evidence of global warming. It was scary and sad at the same time. Glaciers were melting/moving at very fast rates, icebergs are melting faster than they should be. There are animals which are meant to survive in the cold only but their ecosystems are being damaged and it is impacting them badly. Also, a big "methane pipe" was found in a lake. I can't remember the specifics but it is naturally occuring methane which is being released into the atmosphere at an alarming rate. The effect on methane in the atmosphere being heated by the sun could cause all sorts of problems.

I'm amazed when people say, "So the average temperature has increased by 3 degrees, big deal!" That is a big deal. I wish that ecological and environmental sciences were taught more. The reason for these changes is due to the pollutants we humans are adding to the atmosphere ourselves, from our home use of energy, to company use, government use, agricultural use, etc.

There are so many ways in which we can help take care of our environment rather than take it for granted.

Yet I digress; the state of our environment determines the state of our future.

    Peace. :)

It's wonderful that you are going to put your wife first - that's absolutely the way it should be. I think it's shameful that your fiancee won't do the same for you. A marriage is about a whole lot more than a wedding day, and in your marriage, your spouse, not your parents, come first. It's not good to start a marriage with a wedding dictated by the parents. A wedding day should be a reflection of the couple getting married, not the bride's mother. Sit down with your fiancee and tell her how you feel. It may help to try counseling - your fiancee may feel less defensive hearing from a neutral third party, but make sure she doesn't feel ganged up on or ambushed. Most importantly, don't force your fiance to choose between you and her mother. Chances are you'll end up losing that battle. She has to come to the realization that her husband will come first in her life now and it's time to start establishing herself as a grown woman independent from her mother. Does she have any girlfriends who can talk to her about this? Also, I don't agree with people who say this is her wedding day, let her have her way. It's not just about the bride, it's about the couple, and the wedding day is the start of a marriage, a partnership. Yes, lots of women have dreamed of their wedding day since they were a little girl, but the most important part of any wedding are the TWO people who are getting married. Your fiancee really needs to take your feelings into consideration. Otherwise, you're just a faceless fantasy groom and it wouldn't matter who she married. I don't think that's what you want for your wedding day.

Unless we get serious about population control, everything else, the environment, energy, food, all of that will be futile.I am for the environment,it is just useless to worry about until we quit adding population. What good does it do to decrease emissions or increase mileage by X%,if we add so many people we end up losing ground? You care about the envvironment?Care about population control first

Source(s): Population control isn't the issue, it's control of resources. People will always reproduce. It's the distribution of resources which is the issue. How can you say you care and have thought about it,and so easily dismiss population control? Our population is expanding at what is called an exponential rate.It doubles every 50 years or so.When the population was 1 million, another million in 50 years wasn't too much,we also had "frontiers"to settle. Now,that same 50 years will bring an increase of not 1 million people, but 6 BILLION people. There is no where left to go.If EVERYONE in the world reduced their pollution by 50%,and the population doubles,we have gained nothing. That is just on pollution.A set area can provide for only a certain number of population. Our Eath is full. With millions more born every day than die.The population grows like the old riddle"Would you rather me give you a million dollars?Or would you rather me give you one penny on the first day of the month,2 cents on the second,4 cents on the 3rd....for 30 days?"Try it on the calculator. No one disputes that population is growing in this manner, yet you don't hear about it because denying people reproductive rights is offensive to individual liberties.I urge you to research more on the population growth. It will astonish you.The answers are hard answers, and no one wants to hear them, but we can control the population,or nature will.Seriously,it's the most important, yet most overlooked, factor of the environment.Until we stop this tremendous growth, all other actions, although noble, will be for nought

You said, "No one seems to care." Are you living a sheltered life? I care about the environment very much. Yet all the go green propaganda that is in the media is so annoying it almost makes me want to revert to my throw my un-biodegradable trash out the window of my car days.

It is and the REAL event of importance in December 2012 is the expiry of the Kyoto protocol. People should be worrying about controlling greenhouse gasses not superstitious nonsense about the end of the world.

i certainly understand it and i can see no other priority more important. a lot of humans seem to believe that the life sustaining Earth can be pillaged and raped for pleasure and convenience and there will be no consequences. or worse ... they believe that angels will arrive to hoist their selfish butts into heaven so they won't endure the consequences.

a lot of people care, tho, but i'm not sure there's enough people caring to overcome the toxic and wasteful burden of those who don't. remember, it's not just selfish individuals shrugging off imminent environmental disaster but more so the mega polluting corporations that won't allow Eco concerns to cut into their bottom line.

i care, very much so. my religion is nature based, so seeing it healed and revered is very important to me, and to people like me. I grow my own herbs, my own vegetables, and use my electricity sparingly. I recycle, and make my own cloth bags to use at stores. Yes, I am a tree hugger.
