What would be the most significant change in a cell if the mitochondria was removed?

It would significantly lose ATP producing abilities. BUT, it will still be able to produce ATP via glycolosis and fermentation. These reactions take place in the cytosol.

Dying would be the most significant effect. No E= no respiration or metabolism. Active transport would shut down. Bad things....

it wouldnt be able to make ATP (energy) in order to go through life processes. without energy it would die
