Digital TV?

My dad's Samsung digital TV is only working in analogue mode.He is not able to search for digital channels, play digital channels and whenever he presses the Digital Menu button it says it is unavailable (because it is working analogue) I have tried but can't get it back into digital mode. He has a vcr connected but it is always switched off. I was going to try the initial set up procedure again ...does anyone know if that would reset it ?Any help would be much appreciated.

Update:

James....thanks for your answer .... the remote still operates the TV so I assume the TV button at the top (I know which one you mean) hasn't been knocked.

Update 2:

Ahwell...there is a button which says TV/DTV but when it is pressed it is still on analogue.

If it works in analogue, you should be able to get something in digital. The initial set-up procedure should give you back the digital stations - if not the digital tuner is broken.

Is he using an antenna to receive channels? Depending upon which Samsung model this is it may have more than one antenna input. Please make sure if it has two antenna inputs that both are connected to the antenna. If you need to do this you need a splitter. The reason such sets have two inputs is that one is often used for cable tv and the other is for the digital antenna. This allows reception of analog cable channels without a cable box and digital over the air channels without needing a switch to switch back and forth between the two sources. The menu or setup button on the remote should allow you to autoscan for the channels once the antenna connection is made.

There'll be a button on there to switch from one to the other, have a look at the remote guide in the manual. Just a thought, he has got a digital ariel hasn't he?

you might have pressed the 'TV' button, up the top of the remote there are things like 'DVD' and 'TV' and stuff above the on/off button, press one of them, I can't remember, try the TV one, i remember i had the same problem ages ago, turns out i just accidently switched it.. :)
