6 year old vomiting- no other symptoms???

My friend's child has been having problems with vomiting. It starts usually when she is in a deep sleep- she snores extremely loudly, if this is any help for someone to guess what the problem may be. Then she vomits all evening and into the next morning. She usually has no other symptoms- no stomach pain, no fever, etc... The last time however, she did have stomach pain and so her parents took her to the hospital where they did several tests and came up with nothing. The parents are extremely stressed out because they can't figure out what could be causing this. If it were a food allergy, I would think it would happen other times of the day. Any ideas???

First off, I would ask if the child is eating before bedtime. I would try to have them eat their last meal AT LEAST two hours before they go to bed.

Second, try to get the child to really relax and calm down before bedtime. Just excitement alone can cause problems.

Third, is the child scared or restless about going to bed? Is she frightened? Is something bothering her?

Fourth - is it possible the child has some type of problem with reflux (gastric juices start coming back up the esophagus, and then its all over).

I would suggest they take the child to a gastroenterologist.

Once they have ruled out any stomach issues, then I would suggest some counseling might be appropriate. Little children can have one small little thing that bothers them, and without understanding it, it can take hold. It's not a reflection of anyone's parenting, it's just that children are children, and sometimes you need to help them out.

Encourage the parents. Let them know that it will all be fine, but to pursue it diligently.

    God bless.

Food poisoning does not last for 6 days. This is serious you need to take her to the doctor immediately. When I was 8 years old I started vomiting and having diarrhea for no reasons and it turned out to be my appendix's, which ended up exploding and I had to be in the ICU for a month, I nearly died because no one believed it was that serious. I obviously can't say for sure that this is what it is but it sounds similar and maybe it's something you could check out.

Okay here are my opinions she can have gastritis or poisoning to brain tumors, an intestinal problem (small intestine) or elevated intracranial pressure. Have your friend take her to a very good Gastrointerologist.

It might be a food allergy! Though its best to see a Gastrointerologist. They specialize in the stomach.

    Hope I helped!

I am not really sure... but is the child really awake during these times? Ask her if she remembers. It may surprise you... If she cannot remember these episodes, it could be a type of seizure.
